Is It Good?
HEAVEN’S REJECTS #2 concludes Greg Wright’s raucous tale about fallen angels who struggle to make enough cash to keep their demon-hunting agency afloat. When they accept an offer to partner with a demon to take out its competition, can the angels make the moola while keeping their morals intact?
Wright’s premise has promise, but the devil’s in the details, so it’s in the execution where this finale falls flat. Pairing a flock of fallen angels with a demon has interesting story potential, and we were relatively positive about the early blossoms of that potential in our issue #1 review. Unfortunately, those small blossoms wither pretty quickly in this issue as the plot devolves into a sloppy version of “F%$&, Marry, Kill” when the angels take their first demon-assigned task.
The plot revolves around the angels heading out for their first day on the job with Sunshine the Demon as their supervisor. When Sunshine takes the angles to the local mall, it points out how the Food Court is the gathering place for innumerable demons from across the cultural spectrum. Then, the comic shifts into all-out mayhem as the demons emerge and the Food Court turns into a Killing Field. Demons from other cultures arrive, sometimes accompanied by culturally insensitive quips and jokes.
The violence is silly, the quips and jokes are either super corny, don’t make sense, or lean into insensitive stereotypes, and the conclusion doesn’t form a complete ending.
Sackett’s art is serviceable enough as an indie comic with a mildly underground style, but Marques’s colors elevate the art well above underground comic standards. Visually, this is an average indie offering.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our HEAVEN’S REJECTS #1 review to find out how this team of fallen angels landed their latest assignment.
We begin with Raven, Berry, and Honey fighting off a cosmic toad demon in orbit around Earth. How the angles found out about the demon or acquired a space shuttle when they don’t have any money is a mystery. After defeating the demon and destroying their space shuttle in the process, the angles plummet to Earth, only to be saved by crashing into a blimp to cushion their landing.
Later, Sunshine arrives to supervise the angels on their first demon assignment – killing the demon competition. Sunshine tracks down their latest target and attempts to blow up Chad (or is it Brad?) with a grenade as he stands by a school bus full of kids. The angels intercept the grenade and make Sunshine promise not to harm innocent bystanders. Sunshine agrees and takes the flock to the local hub of demonic activity – the mall.
On its surface, the mall looks completely innocent, but when the angels’ presence is made known, the Food Court explodes with demons from all cultures and belief systems. A group of macho angels arrives to stop the demons and confront our angels about partnering with a demon. We conclude the issue with mayhem and food.

Final Thoughts

HEAVEN’S REJECTS #2 wraps up the two-parter with silly violence, terrible jokes, a paper-thin plot that frequently loses all sense, and just average art with above-average coloring. This is not a recommended pick.
