Was It Good?
YUKI VS. PANDA #8 is a much-needed and long-overdue entry in the strangely decompressed series about two foes destined to end the world. Why? Because readers finally get the faintest hint of information that Yuki is more than she appears, lending her character to the promised apocalyptic destruction to come. While it took Misiurak much, much, much, muchmuchmuch too long to get to this point, the story feels like it’s making progress toward some destination.
In this issue, we see the aftermath of Yuki’s first major battle with Panda on multiple fronts. From every angle, the destruction creates ripples of consequence for our main characters and those around them. Second to the aftermath but more important, readers are treated to a flashback showing how Grandfather first found Yuki (spoiler: they’re not blood relations).
It may sound like a backhanded compliment, but it’s about time this series got moving. There are only so many single-issue cover prices a creator can expect a reader to pay before getting down to the nitty-gritty. while it’s not good it took this long to get her, the series got here. Now, it’s up to Misiurak to pay it off. We shall see.
Despite all the ups and downs, A.L. jones’s art has been the saving grace of this series with manga-inspired emoting, bold colors, and plenty of pop in each issue. So far, this is turning out to be the week of colorists saving the day, and this issue is falling right in line with that trend. The color palette selection is perfect, and the color shading in every panel doubles the pop for visual interest.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
If you don’t recall how the first battle between Yuki and Panda ended, first read our YUKI VS. PANDA #7 review.
We begin with Hardy, the young boy Panda almost rescued from bullies a few issues back. He begins reading his creative writing assignment about his adventure with Panda. The story doesn’t end well, and neither does his reading attempt.
Meanwhile, Yuki is cornered in the school hallway amid the rubble after her fight with Panda. Principal Baldy blames the damage on Yuki and suspends her for one day. Grandfather arrives to escort Yuki home.
As the duo walk, Grandfather recounts how he first found her. We conclude the issue with an attack by wild wolves, chicken wings with a view, and a special mark of prophecy.

Final Thoughts
YUKI VS. PANDA #8 is one of the best in the series because it’s actually starting to focus on the story and moving the plot forward. The scenes show the consequences of the last issue’s battle and how they affect the main characters, as well as those around them. And, the art grabs you with phenomenal coloring.
