Is VOID RIVALS #6 Good?
Well, if you’re going to end the first act in an adventure, what better way to do it than on a literal cliffhanger? In VOID RIVALS #6, Robert Kirkman sends Darak and Solila on the run to escape Zertonian forces, but their escape route will put them on a path that others fear to tread.
When last we left our Agorian and Zertonian frenemies, Dalak was taken away for torture and questioning to find out what he knew about the Zertonian people. Before the torture became permanent, a group of Zertonina rebels broke Drarak out of confinement. However, Darak refused to cooperate unless the rebels rescued Solila from her prison cell. Now, the rebels make good on their bargain to free Solila, but the next leg of the journey back to Agorria gets scuttled by a double cross.
Readers who’ve been keeping up with this series for the Transformers Easter Eggs and cameos will have to wait until the series returns from hiatus. The only characters from Transformers lore are the Qunitessons and a Skrillex, who we’ve seen multiple times in the series. That said, the Quintesson leader makes a surprising comment that is sure to bear fruit in the future.
What’s great about VOID RIVALS #6? Robert Kirkman cranks up the pacing, energy, and action for a thrilling comic that puts you on the edge of your seat. Vehicle chases are notoriously difficult to pull off in a comic format, but Kirkman handles one vehicle chase in this issue with deft ease.
What’s not so great about VOID RIVALS #6? The ending may be less than satisfying for some readers because the last page feels more like a “to be continued” than a clean ending or a traditional cliffhanger. In short, the ending lacks punch.
How’s the art? The art is okay. De Felici nails the perspective angles and energy during the chase scenes, but the inks are loose and lacking in detail in several spots. If you rifle through the pages with the intended pace, you don’t notice the looseness as much, but when you stop to appreciate the art, the lack of details is hard to miss.

What’s VOID RIVALS #6 About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our VOID RIVALS #5 review to find out what happened to Solila when she was left alone in her cell.
Solila consider her next move after receiving a data chip from the Holy Mother of Zerta when a soldier opens her cell door. The soldier hands her a uniform to change into and bids her to follow. The soldier leads Solila to the rebel meeting room where Darak is waiting. With the bargain fulfilled, Dark agrees to take a secure comms chip to Zeronian rebels hiding in Agorria.
The group heads out in disguise to a waiting ship, but before the group can reach the landing bay, soldiers appear based on a tip from one of the rebels who betrayed the group. Solila and Darak make a break for it, and with Handroid’s help, they steal a motorbike to create distance and look for an alternate means of escape. Before long, military drones are on their trail.
We conclude the issue with climbing levels, a maze, and a deadly bridge.

Final Thoughts

VOID RIVALS #6 cranks up the pace and the stakes when Solila and Dark’s escape plan turns into a flight for survival. Kirkman’s end to the first act is a thrill ride from the first page, and the pseudo-cliffhanger ending promises intriguing discoveries when the series returns. That said, the cliffhanger, much like the art, is just okay.
