Is It Good?
Well, okay. The weird time-travel story just got a little weirder in UNBREAKABLE RED SONJA #3 from Jim Zub. If you’re super into weird, this issue just might be the ticket for you. If you favor clarity over weirdness, this series is still in a “wait and see” mode. Let’s get into it.
When last we left Red Sonja and her younger self, they came to realize they were time-displaced versions of the same person, hunted by monsters. Now, the bruised and beaten duo make a long trek to find shelter and help, only to find their destination looks vastly different than it did a short while ago.
Yep, that’s right. More time shenanigans are at work, but it’s not clear how or why, so the net effect is a mystery piled on top of another mystery with nary a clue to get your guessing gears rotating. Mysteries work best when the writer drops little clues to string you along. Unless they’re intentionally well-hidden, there isn’t any clue here to help you out. In fairness, the writing is well-executed with pitch-perfect narration, strong dialog, and outstanding pacing, so it’s not the technical execution that might give you pause. It’s the creative direction and overall lack of clarity.
The art by Valletta, Garcia, Segala, and Pozza is solid. It’s not great art, and it’s by no means bad art. The art is serviceable enough to get the job done. Yes, you could say the figure work lacks detail on the medium and wide shots, but given that most of this issue is cast in shadow at dusk and nighttime, the lack of detail isn’t off-putting.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our UNBREAKABLE RED SONJA #2 review to find out how Red Sonja and lil’ Red Sonja barely escaped with their lives (life?).
We begin with a brief prologue centering on the mysterious witch from the first issue. Through herculean concentration, she’s able to reach the Antiquiem at the heart of the ancient vault. It’s clear that Antiquiem is responsible for the time oddities.
Now, an injured Red Sonja falls into a stupor and off her horse when her injuries from the magical monster become too much. Lil’ Red Sonja staunches the blood but loses her horse in trade, so the two are forced to walk to their destination – the city of Lhasiri. There, Red Sonja helps to find aid from mystics who owe her a debt.
When the duo arrives at what should be a modestly-sized city, more than one surprise awaits. We conclude the issue with an unwelcome welcoming party, everything new is old again, and the hunt continues.

Final Thoughts
(Click this link 👇 to order this comic)
UNBREAKABLE RED SONJA #3 takes the story from weird time-travel shenanigans to even weirder time-travel shenanigans. Zubs technical execution in terms of pacing, dialog, and transitions are on-point, and the art is adequate, but more mystery with fewer answers makes for a confusing read.
