Is THE SACRIFICERS #6 Good?

THE SACRIFICERS #6 ends the first arc in Rick Remender’s stellar fantasy series and sends the title on hiatus for the foreseeable future. Does Remender end this first volume on a high note? You betcha.

When last we left the eclectic creatures on Remender’s fantasy epic, Pigeon decided to escape his purgatory of pleasure to find out what happened to Noom. Soluna decided to follow the Foreman after she witnessed the horror of the elixir’s power. Her curiosity, unfortunately, led to her capture and made Soluna the Foreman’s next greatest source of elixir.

The ending of issue #5 suggests Soluna met the same fate as every mortal who sits in the Foreman’s extraction chair. However, gods are a little harder to kill than mortals, and Remender uses Soluna’s predicament to add a surprising twist that makes the cliffhanger all the more intriguing.

What’s great about THE SACRIFICERS #6? Remender’s final issue in the volume is an emotional, thrilling, excitement-building adventure from start to finish. Every scene has a purpose that drives the readers forward with anticipation for what comes next. This series is Eisner-worthy.

What’s not so great about THE SACRIFICERS #6? There’s not a blessed thing to criticize in this issue. Remender’s final issue in the first volume is first-rate at every level.

How’s the art? Max Fiumara’s soulful fantasy art captures all the desperation, fury, and determination necessary to complement Remender’s script. Truly, we couldn’t imagine a better artist to carry this tale.

Check out our THE SACRIFICERS #5 review to learn how Soluna’s curiosity got her in hot water.

We begin with Lord Rokos visiting Luna in search of their daughter. Their unexpected meeting turns into bickering and then fighting as they argue over the ethics of the elixir. In his rage, Rokos becomes violent.

Elsewhere, the Foreman relishes his latest batch of elixir extracted from Soluna’s body. Suddenly, his extraction machine shakes uncontrollably as the attached pipes show a strange jump in pressure. The pipe bursts, spilling fluid and an exhausted Pigeon onto the floor, knocking over Soluna’s extraction chair.

We conclude the issue with a frantic escape, the face of death, and newfound power.
