Analysis of THE SACRIFICERS #13:
Recap:
When last we left Pigeon in The Sacrificers #12, he used his godly power to ambush the Foreman and his soldiers as they escorted a new batch of Sacrificers, including a weakened Soluna, to King Rokos. The Foreman fought back with magical weapons, leading to a destructive brawl in the middle of the nearby town. Pigeon didn’t realize until too late that unleashing his full fury would have dire consequences for his family. The issue ended with Pigeon submitting to capture in his despair.
Plot Analysis:
In The Sacrificers #13, Pigeon is dragged away by the god Kronious’s Cogoks for punishment. His crime? Cowardice. As the Cogoks, fashioned from metal, chant their songs of punishment, Pigeon becomes enraged and tears them apart. He picks up a nearby axe and walks along to kill the next god on his list, Kronious.
The underground gears and machines that move the world continue to turn, with Kronious pulling the levers. Suddenly, the next lever-pull jams and the great gears crack and crumble as Pigeon uses his godly strength to fracture the machines.
Kronious and Pigeon exchange devastating blows. Pigeon knocks Kronious into the lava flow below, along with scores of Cogoks who don’t have the strength to survive. Pigeon chastises Kronious for his part in slaying innocent Sacrificers. Kronious accuses Pigeon of hypocrisy for killing his brother, wife, and Kronious’s Cogoks.
The issue concludes with Pigeon and Kronious agreeing that deeds mean more than words, forming a truce and a plan to share power with the people. Woe unto any god who stands in their way.
First Impressions:
Writer Rick Remender’s stellar fantasy series shifts focus back to Pigeon’s revenge quest in a hard-hitting issue, literally and figuratively. Since Pigeon acquired godpowers, we’ve only seen him in action, so this is the first time Pigeon backed up his actions with words and intent, giving readers insight into his mentality. Some readers may find Pigeon’s choice of words oddly and politically astute, but the outcome is satisfying.
Artwork and Presentation:
André Lima Araújo steps back into art duties in favor of Max Fiumara, and the results look amazing. Lima Araújo is one of the few artists who can match Fiumara’s flourishes and whimsical details, so you won’t notice a difference in quality or punch.

Story Positives & Negatives:
The Positives:
Who doesn’t love seeing an underdog deliver a right proper ass-kicking? Pigeon not only decimates every obstacle Kronious puts in his path, but he gives the god of toil a stinging tongue-lashing as well. In almost every respect, Pigeon’s path of revenge is satisfying.
The Negatives:
As hinted in the 1st Impressions, Pigeon pulls out several talking points that ring oddly close to a Communist manifesto. The issue isn’t Pigeon’s choice of political viewpoints. The issue is that Pigeon has one at all, considering he was sequestered and shunned in poverty his entire life, specifically because he was always intended to be a sacrifice. It would be a minor miracle if Pigeon knew how to read, much less know the word “Proletariat,” so his debate points don’t match his education or life journey.

THE SACRIFICERS #13 kicks ass and takes names when Pigeon is captured by Kroniuous but refuses to stay captured for long. Rick Remender’s script has strong ideas and even stronger action, and André Lima Araújo’s art comes very close to matching Max Fiumara’s exquisite standard.
