Is THE AGENT #2 Good?
THE AGENT #2 presents an intriguing second chapter. In the previous issue, Agent Rhym, our protagonist, uncovers a hidden magical reality during a drug bust. This time, she encounters a drug dealer wielding seemingly supernatural abilities. Now, she’s thrust deeper into this clandestine world, crossing paths with Sebastian, a sorcerer investigating the killer from issue #1.
If you enjoy grounded urban fantasy, where everyday individuals stumble upon hidden magic, then this comic might be for you. It explores the fascinating potential of creating a fantastical realm within our familiar world. However, this approach requires skilled writing to pull off effectively. While it allows for unique storytelling opportunities, it also necessitates balancing those fantastical elements with the mundane world.
Recapping where we left off, Agent Rhym is left questioning her sanity after a bizarre drug bust encounter. While everyone else seems to have forgotten the dealer’s magical feats, she remains convinced something unusual transpired. Her pursuit of the truth leads her to another confrontation with the same dealer, who nearly kills her and her colleagues. Just as all hope seems lost, Sebastian intervenes, saving her life but incurring injuries himself. The dealer escapes again, leaving Rhym and Sebastian’s paths intertwined, likely paving the way for further magical adventures.
What’s great about THE AGENT #2? The whimsical, fantastical element of urban fantasy shines in this issue. We get glimpses into the history of magic and magical creatures through flashbacks, hinting at a world existing long before Rhym’s awareness. Additionally, we delve deeper into Sebastian’s background, learning about his role in a government-sanctioned mystical agency and his motivations for protecting the innocent. Both Rhym and Sebastian are intriguing characters. Rhym grapples with the unsettling reality of her new discoveries, questioning her own sanity. Meanwhile, Sebastian’s role and responsibilities within this hidden world pique our curiosity.
What’s not so great about THE AGENT #2? While the mystery elements hold promise, they currently lack clarity. We know little about the killer or the drug dealer’s motives, and Rhym’s connection to these events remains unclear. While there’s room for exploration as the series progresses, the excessive ambiguity might leave readers frustrated.
How about the art? Fernando Dagnino’s art excels in this grounded storytelling style. He excels at conveying dramatic character expressions, crafting engaging panel layouts, and capturing key moments that complement the narrative. The coloring is equally impressive.

THE AGENT #2 is a promising comic with intriguing potential. We appreciate the exploration of a magical world existing beneath the surface of our own and the development of Rhym and Sebastian’s characters. However, the overly vague mystery elements could become frustrating if not addressed in future issues.
