Is SYMON SAYZ #3 Good?
Jeff Meuth’s deadly tale about demon possession and murder as a prelude to supernatural war fills in pieces of the puzzle behind the whispers in SYMON SAYZ #3. Readers itching to understand where the whisper comes from and how it plays into the Cardinal’s evil plans will find some answers here.
When last we left Symon, he chose to put on a mask and heed the direction of the whisper from the demonic entity named Kali. Embracing his connection to the demonic also granted Symon supernatural powers. Now, the Cardinal’s private plans for power run afoul of Kain’s plans for Earth. Meanwhile, Kali helps Symon escape arrest and begins the ritual to awaken Symon’s Cain gene to upgrade his power.
No, that’s not a typo. There’s a Kain (the demonic master of the Cardinal), and there’s a Cain (the world’s first murderer according to the Bible). Unless Meuth made one or more typos in the script, these are separate entities with very different purposes within the context of the story.
What’s great about SYMON SAYZ #3? With the inclusion of information behind the Cardinal and Kali, Meuth’s story takes on a grander scope and scale. Tidbits about the Cain gene lead you to believe a lengthy mythology is involved, and it’s intriguing enough to want to know more.
What’s not so great about SYMON SAYZ #3? In fairness, Meuth’s narrative flow and scene transitions are practically non-existent. This issue is a perfect example of a great idea with a great plot that gets in its own way because the technical execution is choppy. The comic jumps back and forth in time without any pointer to let you know the jump happened, and most scenes don’t play out with a logical beginning, middle, and end. In short, the reading experience is a lengthy series of stop-and-go snippets.
How’s the art? Creepy. Since Meuth is the solo creator of this title, it makes sense that the art would suit the atmosphere and movement of the script. Meuth has an excellent grasp of light and shadow to project as much mood as possible.

What’s SYMON SAYZ #3 About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our SYMON SAYZ #2 review to get a peek into the Cardinal’s malignant ways.
We begin with the Cardinal receiving a mystical artifact from a demon-possessed woman following his order. Instead of paying for the demon’s services, the Cardinal kills the woman who acts as the demon’s host.
Elsewhere, Symon is arrested by the police near the apartment building where multiple murders took place. Kali can’t afford to have Symon locked up, so the demon helps Symon cause a car crash to escape the police. Kali directs Symon to run to a nearby house so it can possess the woman who lives inside and move about in the physical world. As soon as the possession is complete, Kali guides Symon to a quiet spot to begin unlocking Symon’s Cain gene.
We conclude the issue with a firing, a hunter employed, and a vow of suffering.

Final Thoughts

SYMON SAYZ #3 widens the scope of the imminent demon war, fills in the blanks behind the Cardinal and Kali, and creates tons of intrigue. Meuth’s central premise is still strong, and the art is creepy. However, Meuth’s narrative flow and scene transitions need a lot of work.
