Is SPAWN #348 Good?
SPAWN #348 escalates the tension and urgency in Rory McConville and Todd McFarlane’s great war for control of Hell. Before the issue is resolved, plans will bear fruit, and allies will fall.
When last we left Spawn, he received an unexpected visit from his deceased wife, Wanda, while the warring factions made progress in the race to reach Hell’s Throne first. Now, Nyx and Greenworld’s forces take a devastating loss, Clown’s plan to invade Heaven pays off, and She-Spawn and the Scorched recover their captured allies.
In the collective of Spawn titles on the LCS shelves at the moment, this is the one firmly entrenched in the Heaven/Hell War. King Spawn, The Scorched, and Gunslinger Spawn’s developments are briefly referenced, but if you’re wondering whether or not all four titles are working together cohesively as a coordinated crossover, they’re not.
What’s great about SPAWN #348? McConville and McFarlane are moving forward at full speed with an issue packed with action, urgency, momentum, and direction. If you want a Spawn title with a strong hook that keeps you on the edge of your set until the final moments, SPAWN #348 is the best of the bunch.
What’s not so great about SPAWN #348? McConville and McFarlane are doing a bang-up job crafting an expansive, intricate war, but the disconnect between characters in other titles is a bummer because it directly contradicts the point of having a “Spawnverse.” How is Spawn wandering the wastelands of Hell alone in King Spawn and strolling the wastelands with his wife here? How is She-Spawn leading the Scorched in an assault against Sinn’s forces here when she’s on Earth fighting one of Medieval’s ancient foes on Earth? Yes, coordinating multiple titles is a pain, but that’s what makes it so cool when you do it right.
How’s the art? Superb. Carlo Barberi delivers awesome figure work, brutal action, and oodles of drama whenever and wherever possible.

Check out our SPAWN #347 review to find out how Al and Wanda were reunited.
We begin with Nyx and the Greenworld forces attacking Sinn directly. Hopped up on Necroplasm, Sinn easily overcomes Greenworld and kills most of the team. Elsewhere, Clown and his demonic army attain full control of Heaven’s Dead Zones and launch through the portal for a quick route to Hell.
Meanwhile, Al and Wanda reminisce about the good times when they were still alive, but Al notices Wanda’s time away from Heaven is taking a physical toll. And She-Spawn leads an assault on the prisoner transport containing Gunslinger and Medieval. We conclude the issue with decapitations, bad news, and a countdown.

Final Thoughts
(Click this link 👇 to order this comic)
SPAWN #348 amps up the urgency and the threat level when Sinn makes a final push for the Throne while the opposing forces are still scattered. McConville and McFarlane have an epic war drama on their hands, even if the synergy between Spawnverse titles is practically non-existent. And Barberi’s Spawn art is as good as it gets.
