Is SPAWN #347 Good?
In SPAWN #347, Rory McConville and Todd McFarlane gravely shift the odds of victory away from Heaven’s invading army, but the winner is far from certain. The strategic twists and turns will keep readers guessing until the final scene, and the last scene is a surprise cliffhanger that could be a game-changer for Spawn.
When last we left Spawn, Greenworld’s forces arrived to join the fight against Heaven and against Sinn, giving the reigning king an edge at retaining his throne. Meanwhile, Spawn revealed to his team that he intends to take the throne for himself to prevent a power grab from ever happening again. Now, Heaven’s army feels the pain of Greenworld’s coordinated attacks, while Clown’s demons create an effective distraction by invading Heaven. Spawn’s teammates express their “concern” over Spawn’s plan to take the throne, and the destructive fighting opens a dead zone that allows a special denizen of Heaven to escape.
SPAWN #347 hits readers with a one-two punch of intrigue and excitement. Carrying out well-executed battles on multiple fronts gives readers plenty of action to stay invested on every page. Plus, the last-page reveal is a doozy that could turn Spawn’s plans upside down.
What’s great about SPAWN #347? McConville and McFarlane create a relentless sense of momentum as the tide turns in the war for Hell. You get the distinct impression that forces are closing in on all sides for the throne, so the high-stakes fighting combines with high-speed pacing to pull you along at a sprint.
What’s not so great about SPAWN #347? There’s not much to criticize about SPAWN #347. The action, pacing, dialog, and plot developments are on point. It would have been better to get more page space devoted to Clown’s attack on Hell, but the invasion has the desired effect.
How’s the art? Outstanding. Carlo Barberi and Zé Carlos’s art is as good as any artist you’ve come to expect on a Spawn title.

What’s SPAWN #347 About?

Check out our SPAWN #346 review to find out how Cataclysm reacted to Clown’s offer for help.
We begin with a brief prologue depicting how Cogliostro’s (aka Sinn) first attempt to overthrow Hell turned out. Now, Sinn relishes the throne for the power it holds, but his victory ensures his revenge against his torturers.
Now, Spawn’s fellow hellspawns react badly to Spawn’s plan to take the throne for himself. His plan makes sense logically, but everyone is still reeling from Spawn’s mishandling of the Dead Zones. She-Spawn agrees there’s no time for arguing, but she refuses to leave her fallen comrades behind. The rest of the hellspawns choose to follow She-Spawn rather than follow Spawn to the throne.
We conclude the issue with uncertainty in Heaven, a losing battle in Hell, and a new player entering the arena.
