Is It Good?
PELLUCIDAR: ACROSS SAVAGE SEAS #4 is a darn good finale to a darn good mini-series. It’s a classic pulp adventure from start to finish with exotic locations, hand-to-hand battles between warring species, weird monsters, and a storybook ending. If you’re into classic pulp serial adventures, you couldn’t ask for a better ending.
There is no high point in this issue to earn top marks in the execution because everything about this finale works. The pacing and energy are sky high, the dialog is excellent, the action scenes are thrilling with just enough danger to keep the stakes elevated, and the conclusion satisfies on every level.
Regarding the art, Puglia, Jane, and Pillai are a perfect team for this type of material. The character designs and action are dynamic, and Pillai’s colors are so vivid that you’d think you were watching a Technicolor film in the Golden age of Hollywood.
This is going to be a short review because there’s not much to say. This is a stellar finale for a stellar series, and it’s absolutely worth your time.

If you’re unsure how Gretchen got herself into quite a pickle, check out our PELLUCIDAR: ACROSS SAVAGE SEAS #3 review.
We begin with Omlot fighting for his life against a sea monster after leaving the Krataklaks’ island. When the fight appears to be a stalemate, Nadok arrives to lend a hand, and they defeat the sea monster together. Confused by Nadok’s help, Omlot questions his motives. Nadok explains his people are not slaves but work in a trade agreement with the Krataklaks. Toran has been manipulating the Krataklaks because his mind is a slave to the octopus-like Azlaks who wish to destroy the crab-like miners.
Meanwhile, Toran is about to merge an Azlak with Gretchen to permanently possess her mind and steal the secrets of advanced weapons. Suddenly, a squad of Krataklaks arrive and attack the possessed workers. Gretchen uses the distraction to escape.
Later, Omlot and Nadok arrive back at the mines to rescue Gretchen, fighting their way through the possessed workers. We conclude the issue with the last stand, a severed head, and a bedtime story.
