Was It Good?
PANTHA #2 continues to impress with a fascinating take that updates the classic Warren character with a blend of ancient mythology and a twist on Gaiman’s American Gods. In the last issue, Sniegoski and Acheson treated readers to a fresh retelling of Pantha’s origins, established the foundation of the gods in our modern world, and brought all the pieces together for a world-shaking conflict. In issue #2, the team of Pantha and Nick is firmly established, and we follow them as they look to make the best use of Sekhmet’s Wrath.
If you’re new to the character and this series, that sounds like a lot. You’re not wrong, but what should impress you is how well Sniegoski and Acheson execute a compelling chapter in this arc while organically filling in the backstory pieces to make it clear who’s who and what’s what. In other words, Sniegoski and Acheson are doing exactly what every comic writer should be doing – prioritizing clarity because every comic is somebody’s first comic.
We’ll cover the details of this issue in the next section below, but know that in this issue the intentions of the unborn entity known as Ta-Nakht are made clear, Sekhet is in real trouble, Pantha shows why even the gods should be afraid of her, and Set lives up to his reputation as the god of chaos. Again, this issue is all the more impressive for how much story it covers while remaining clear and compelling.
ComicalOpinions prioritizes story over art but we give credit where credit is due. Lima and Augusto turn in stellar work in this issue. The lines are beautiful and the coloring is outstanding. On a separate note, we’ve experienced some frustration this week with comics letterers using color-filled captions and non-contrasting font colors that look pretty but are difficult to read. Thankfully, there’s no such problem here as Sienty made some interesting color choices with fonts and caption boxes that capture your attention AND are easy to read. Kudos to Sienty for doing artful lettering the right way.

If you don’t recall how or why Nick sought out Pantha, first read our PANTHA #1 review.
We begin after the cliffhanger from issue #1 with Nick aka Ihy the god of music under attack by Ta-Nakht’s spider-like drone monsters. Pantha breaks from her zoo cage and takes down the monster permanently. considering the risk to the gods and herself, with the possibility that her aid would be rewarded with the removal of her curse, Pantha agrees to help Nick and the gods.
Now on the run, Nick gets Pantha updated on modern life (clothes, food, etc.) with amusing results. When Nick receives word Sekhet is missing, the duo has no choice but to seek help from Set. The god of chaos, now living life as a wealthy weapons developer, is happy to give Nick and Pantha refuge.
We conclude the issue with Ta-Nakht’s plan to get Sekhet’s Wrath for itself to help it evolve, a betrayal, and the birth of a new kind of drone.

Final Thoughts
PANTHA #2 is a fascinating, original adventure that weaves concepts of history, mythology, and modern horror in a smooth read. The amount of story and complexity is surprising given the number of pages, and the art is outstanding.
