Is MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #115 Good?
Melissa Flores gives the Rangers a glimmer of hope to save Safehaven from Mistress Vile and Dark Specter in MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #115. The mood is getting desperate among the Rangers, and Flores successfully uses this issue to prove the old adage that “desperate people are dangerous people.”
When last we left the Rangers, Billy took the lead gathering the surviving Rangers from across Time and Space in Angel Grove to come up with a plan. Meanwhile, Tommy fell into Mistress Vile’s clutches as a prisoner. Now, Billy and Matt help the ragtag group of Rangers devise a secret plan to infiltrate the tunnels under Eternity Point for a sneak attack, but they’ll have to enlist unwanted help to make it happen.
In addition to the interpersonal struggles involved in getting a VERY eclectic group of Rangers to work together, Flores includes a few scenes with Kim, Jason, and a collection of other fan favorites to enhance the emotional depth of this issue. Jason may not be a Ranger anymore, but adding him to the mix adds weight to the seriousness of the situation.
What’s great about MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #115? Flores named this arc “Darkest Hour” with good reason. Every path to victory is crushed, the Rangers’ choices get increasingly risky and dangerous, and the fight against Dark Specter is seemingly hopeless. Every step forward pushes the Rangers two steps back, so you’re deeply invested in finding out how they get out of their predicament.
What’s not so great about MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #115? In the Rangers’ risky rush to free Safehaven, their goals and priorities are getting lost in the noise. Why is Safehaven the top priority as opposed to rescuing other Rangers or any other objective? Flores is doing a bang-up job pushing the Rangers forward, but the direction and priorities have become unclear.
How’s the art? Simona Di Gianfelice is doing a great job bringing this multi-Ranger event to fruition. The costume designs look great. Di Gianfelice’s eye for dramatic panels is on point, and the coloring team’s output is excellent.

Final Thoughts

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #115 cranks up the desperation and the hopelessness when the surviving Rangers concoct a plan to free Safehaven. Flores’s script smothers the Rangers with the sinking feeling that all hope is lost, and Di Gianfelice’s art is excellent. This issue lives up to the “Darkest Hour” title.
