Was It Good?
We’ll be the first to admit the character of Jennifer Blood isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. In the comics realm, the Tarantino-esque mix of hyper-violence and caustic wit is an acquired taste. However, we favor any comic in any genre or subgenre as long as it’s written well, drawn well, knows what kind of comic it wants to be, and goes all-in on providing as much entertainment as possible. JENNIFER BLOOD (VOL. 2) #8 is just such a comic.
Van Lente masterfully weaves biting wit into what would be an otherwise taut crime thriller. The action is still intense, and the plot development is still fraught with danger, but there’s a twinkle of black humor sprinkled on every page to make sure you’re having fun.
Blood and Eagle figure out the (former) drug cartel’s next big score, and they hatch a plan to steal what’s about to be stolen. The action reaches The Fast and the Furious levels of insanity, but enough happens where our anti-heroes don’t get away with paying a potentially heavy cost. In some ways, the action coupled with the violence and black wit make this issue a better version of The Fast and the Furious. Your tastes may vary.
What helps the story along is the excellent art from Federici, Ranaldi, Kelly, and Eckleberry. In particular, the art team holds your attention with the low camera angles in the panels to get a worm’s eye view of the action to make every panel feel bigger. When Jennifer stands triumphant after a sparring knife fight, the low angles make her appear larger than life. The art team puts its all into making the comic feel as cinematic as possible, and the results speak for themselves.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
If you don’t recall how Jennifer managed to hack the cartel’s phones, first read our JENNIFER BLOOD (VOL. 2) #7 review.
We begin with a mock knife fight between Jennifer Blood and Eagle as they discuss their latest plan of attack against Flores and his gang. An erectile dysfunction drug named Seroto was banned by the FDA after it was found to cause nasty side effects. However, enterprising criminals found the drug has an amplifying effect when mixed with cocaine.
Flores uses his Big Pharma connections to win the contract to escort the last supply of the drug to a facility for destruction while simultaneously planning to steal the drug to sell to the highest bidder. Blood and Eagle plan to steal it first. The plan goes off without a hitch until Eagle makes a critical mistake. We conclude the issue with a bloody confrontation, plenty of explosions, and a mob boss with a score to settle.
