Was It Good?
How is this series so entertaining?!? How does Fred Van Lente manage to capture the slick charm of European crime thrillers and blend it with the black humor flair of the Coen Brothers? It’s unclear how, but readers are reaping the benefits and then some.
JENNIFER BLOOD (VOL. 2) #7 maintains the spectacularly high standards of this series with a new status quo in the life of the titular character (or her successor, depending on your interpretation). Jennifer Blood and her new partner, Eagle, head out to cut down every criminal who takes advantage of government protection or legal loopholes. Instead of centering all the activity in the town of Bountiful, the hunt has gone national with the help of Eagle’s past criminal contacts.
Everything about this issue screams “Hip Cool Charm” under the guise of a crime thriller. The characters all have distinctive voices. The story moves and flows like the heist films starring the Rat pack from the 60s. And the main character practically sweeps you up in her enthusiasm for her mission. This issue exudes devilish charm.
Federici and Ranaldi are killing it (pun intended) in this series. The art team combines fantastic character acting, dramatic panel angles, high-octane action, and just enough cheesecake to spice things up. This art team is a perfect match for the material.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
If you don’t recall how Jennifer Blood partnered up with Eagle for this new arc, first read our JENNIFER BLOOD (VOL. 2) #6 review.
We begin with Jenifer Blood and Eagle scouting out a quinceañera (a coming-out party for 15-year-old girls) where the father of the guest of honor is a former drug cartel general. Eagle has relayed to Jennifer how he used to carry out assassination jobs for the general, and now the general has taken legal refuge in the US, enjoying the fruits of his labor after a small prison stint.
We flashback to several weeks before the party when Eagle first offered information about the general and his lieutenants. Jennifer executes a bait-and-switch tactic during a yoga class to steal the general’s phone to gather all his contacts.
We conclude the issue with Jennifer setting off lethal fireworks at the party, a dying killer experiencing a crisis of conscience, and an opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade.

JENNIFER BLOOD (VOL. 2) #7 is practically perfect in every way for the material. The writing is smart, edgy, hip, and funny, with enough hyper-violence to wow you. The art team complements the writing with equal perfection.
