Is It Good?
JENNIFER BLOOD (VOL. 2) #10 is the type of comic that satisfies that happy place in your little black heart. No apologies. No regrets. Just all-out mayhem with a protagonist that’s become a force of nature.
Van Lente’s blood-soaked finale works as well as it does because the story is told from Eagles’ point of view rather than Jennifer’s. When the operation reaches its bullet-riddled climax, the survivors feel the end is coming and speak of Jennifer as though she were an unstoppable machine. Her character is elevated and made more powerful by the fear and anxiety of the characters talking about her. That may be the key to this series’ success, particularly in this and the previous issue. Jennifer is more powerful and badass when her reputation looms larger than her physical presence.
If you’re looking for deep plot development or complex narratives, this isn’t that kind of comic, so set your expectations accordingly. However, there is a twist at the start of the last act that (again) elevates Jennifer further for her crafty strategic skills. As far as conclusions go, you couldn’t ask for a more satisfying one.
Ranaldi and Gambone are another force to be reckoned with in their slick, hip, cool, bloody art delivery. The panel compositions are cinematic. The action rivals the best crime/thriller shootouts. And the little facial expressions (a wink, a slight smirk, wide eyes) all play into emphasizing the dramatic punch of each scene. Again, this is a satisfying comic, but the art has as much to do with the satisfaction level as the writing.

Before striding into the chaos, refresh your mind on the setup in our JENNIFER BLOOD (VOL. 2) #9 review.
We begin with Eagle making a deal with Platinum Blondi now that he’s learned he has a new lease on life. Kill Jennifer Blood, and all is forgiven. Meanwhile, the auction for the stolen drugs begins. As soon as the curtain is drawn to display the goods, our lead anti-hero is waiting to surprise the crowd with a very big gun.
Mayhem ensues.
Bullets fly. Criminals fall. And it isn’t long before Jennifer takes the express elevator to the penthouse where Eagle and Platinum Blondi are waiting. We conclude the issue with a cruel bait-and-switch, another name scratched off a list, and going out in a blaze of glory.
