Is It Good?
HEAVEN’S REJECTS #3 is terrible. There’s no nice way to put it. Forgive us, Oh Lord, for Source Point has sinned by publishing this comic. In fairness, there’s always room to talk about positives, so we’ll start there.
The absolute best part of the comic is the coloring. Kudos to Fabi Marques for an excellent color palette selection. The shading is well done, gradients on the background textures look amazing, and accent colors pop.
Second to the coloring is Greg Wright’s imaginative premise about a trio of angels struggling to get by while under contract to a demon. Through a series of misadventures, two forces that should be diametrically opposed to each other find a way to work together in a win-win scenario (almost). It’s a unique idea, rich with potential.
What doesn’t work? Everything else.
Wright’s dialog is grating, unnatural, and clunky, jokes don’t land, and there’s no consistency from one page to the next regarding the angels’ actions. For example, the angels kill the same monsters at least twice in the same issue before the monsters join forces with the angels in the final battle. Where did the monsters come from? Who knows? Are they the same monsters or different monsters? Who knows? Why are aliens protecting a Summer Camp from demons? Who knows?
Yes, this is meant to be a farce, so not everything needs to make logical sense, but there’s a difference between absurd developments that come off as funny and random noise. This comic is entirely random noise held together with a paper-thin plot.
The coloring is positive, but the pencils/inks are mediocre at best. Character anatomies are frequently distorted and don’t line up, transitions from one scene to the next (sometimes one panel to the next) don’t make sense, and the overall quality of the line work is amateurish.
Look, we advocate for and want to encourage more independent comics, but being independent is not an excuse for shoddy work. This is shoddy work.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our HEAVEN’S REJECTS #2 review to find out how the angels’ first day working for Sunshine the demon turned out.
We begin with a brief prologue where the angels – Berry, Honey, and Raven – battle a giant man calling himself Doubting Thomas. There’s no setup or explanation for where he comes from, what he wants, how he got his powers or a clear explanation of how his powers work. Doubting Thomas can warp reality to destroy whatever you believe in… or something like that. Somehow, Honey destroys the villain with overwhelming faith(?).
Later, Sunshine arrives at the office with a kidnapped girl. She possesses the girl to coerce the angels, who are already in a service contract with Sunshine, to accompany her to a Summer Camp housing more demon competition. The angels, unsurprisingly, turn out to be the worst camp counselors in the world.
Soon, the demonic elements are rooted out, and mayhem ensues.

Final Thoughts

HEAVEN’S REJECTS #3 is a chaotic mess of a comic. The plot makes little sense, scene transitions frequently don’t make sense, and the art waffles between just okay and sub-par, with coloring being the one bright spot.
