Is HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #3 Good?
Ooh, Charles Ardai is a sneaky little devil. In a series that draws inspiration from magic and misdirection, HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #3 pulls another rabbit out of the proverbial hat to wow the readers with Dahlia’s skill as the world’s greatest illusionist.
When last we left Dahlia and Cesar, Tala, still believing her brother was dead, murdered the two government agents following Dahlia out of revenge for her brother. Now, Tala is in police custody for murder, and it’s up to Dahlia and Cesar to free Tala and disappear before the police, the government, and worst of all, Claride can find them.
What’s the big surprise? That would be telling. Frankly, it’s too good a surprise to spoil, but just know you won’t see it coming. We often harp on the idea that every issue, whether a one-shot or part of an ongoing series, should have one big idea. HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #3 hits you with that idea on the last page, and it flips everything you thought you knew about this arc upside down.
What’s great about HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #3? You cannot overstate the gotcha factor of the last-page surprise. Ardai ticks all the right boxes with snappy dialog, high-energy pacing as Dahlia and her allies flee from one locale to the next, and clever twists with disguises to keep you on your toes. But it’s the final twist that will have you saying to yourself with a wry smile, “Ahh, he got me.”
What’s not so great about HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #3? High pacing is usually a good thing, but this issue tips just past the line of going a little too fast. Readers race from one scene to the next and one explanation to the next with barely a beat to absorb what’s happening. To be clear, Ardai’s writing is clear and easy to follow, but the issue almost approaches an issue-long montage. Still, the last page reveal is a “killer” (ahem).
How’s the art? Excellent. Continuado and Zapata keep pace with Ardai’s dizzying script to deliver fast chases, quick changes, and beautiful women. Be forewarned. This issue is definitely NSFW for nudity.

Check out our HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #2 review to find out why Tala made a fatal mistake.
We begin with Tala Dizon being led into a jail cell after her arrest for murdering two people in the audience of a nightclub act. Tla believed the two people were the agents responsible for her brother’s murder. They were not.
Dahlia and Cesar concoct a plan to sneak into jail and swap places with Tala to get her out. The plan works, and the trio flees to Mexico to plan their next steps. Claride, however, is too smart to be fooled by disguises and misdirection, and she manages to stay on the trio’s trail.
In Mexico, Dahlia hatches a plan to fake Tala’s death. Claride informs her superiors that she knows what Dahlia will try in great detail and works with Agent Gorman to spring a trap. We conclude the issue with fingerprints, DNA evidence, torture, and bondage.

HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #3 sends Dahlia, Tala, and Cesar on a race to escape Claride and the government forces who want them dead. The chase, disguises, and crafty plans are dizzying, and the art is first-rate, but it’s the last-page twist that makes this issue worth the read.
