Was It Good?
We praised issue #1 for its absurd-yet-cool re-imagining of John Wick with an anthropomorphic dog in the lead role. To be clear, this isn’t an homage to John Wick or a revenge story in the same vein as John Wick. It’s almost precisely John Wick retold with a dog in the lead role. Except for a few teaks here and there, it’s a direct copy of the story.
Now, you might think “If it’s the same story, why read this?” In fairness, the novelty is the draw but made more special because the writers chose (so far) not to go for cheap laughs with incessant dog buns. There’s no tongue-in-cheek humor. The characters are playing their roles with 100% conviction, and it shows.
That’s what makes this title worth reading instead of it dismissing it as a pointless parody. The writers and artists are playing it straight, which gives the material a fascinatingly surreal quality.
Of course, the story wouldn’t work if the art wasn’t up to snuff. Thankfully, it is. Kit Wallis has an indie style to the lines that suit the hard-boiled nature of the material. The dogs are believable in their roles, and the action is gritty and intense.
Sure, it’s a gimmick title, but it’s one of the better ones you’re likely to ever find.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
If you don’t recall how Flint Sparks got pulled back into the “business”, first read our GOOD BOY #1 review.
If you hadn’t heard it enough in this review, this story is an almost an exact copy of John Wick, so if you’re familiar with the film, you already know what happened last and what happens next.
We begin with an auto garage run by Ricco and his lieutenants. The garage is considered a safe space among competing assassins, and Flint Sparks happens to need a safe space from pursuing killers. Flint’s intended killers are sent packing, Ricco sends his squad to clear them away from the property with extreme prejudice.
Later, Flint gets repairs, weapons, and medical treatment after being sent to a hotel that specializes in catering to guild assassins. After some much-needed rest and treatment, Flint is visited by the Tailor, who gives Flint just the right suits to complement the task ahead of him – killing the ones responsible for killing his master.
We conclude the issue with a heartfelt goodbye letter, a collective “I just got this thing fixed”, and the next round of gunfights ready to begin.
Final Thoughts
GOOD BOY #2 is a surreal retelling of John Wick that works because the writing and character “acting” through the art is played 100% straight with the same seriousness and grim determination of the original film. Wisely, the creators stay away from obvious puns and cheap laughs to give readers an authentically hard-boiled revenge thriller.
