Is EDIE #2 Good?
Edie, our introverted protagonist, is still reeling from the traumas of issue #1: a sexual assault by Brice and a ross transformation after encountering alien goo. We open EDIE #2 with her recovering in the woods, feeling unwell and traumatized. She reunites with her supportive friend Taylor, but the healing journey is far from over.
Later, Edie reports her assault to school officials, resulting in a lengthy investigation process, including interviews with students and parents. When Edie’s assault is deemed a he said/she said scenario, her situation goes from bad to worse when the alien goo inside her body starts consuming living creatures that get too close.
What we liked about EDIE #2:
- Unique horror blend: The B-movie monster vibes mixed with modern teen angst create a fresh and intriguing premise. We love the twist on “The Blob” concept, with the monstrous entity residing within Edie.
- Revenge potential: As Edie struggles with her identity as the host of a monstrous blob, the potential for revenge against her abusers adds a layer of dark intrigue. We’re curious to see where this leads!
What we didn’t like about EDIE #2:
- Overly detailed assault portrayal: While realistically depicting sexual assault is important, the comic spends a significant portion on interviews and investigations, feeling repetitive and slowing down the pacing. The “we get it” factor sets in, taking away from the horror aspects.
- Uneven tone: The serious exploration of assault clashes with the B-movie horror elements, creating a tonal disconnect. It feels like two stories competing for attention, and the assault storyline dominates, leaving the monster aspect underdeveloped.

EDIE #2 is a solid issue with a compelling premise, but it stumbles by lingering on the assault details and neglecting the monster side. The pacing suffers, and the tonal imbalance prevents a truly cohesive experience.
