Is DAYS OF THE REPUBLIC (VOL. 2) Good?
Dumitru Vlad’s follow-up to Days of the Republic (Vol. 1) brings some much-needed clarity to Hannah’s mission and escalates the stakes considerably when readers learn what’s at the end of her treasure hunt. If the first volume had you mildly interested, DAYS OF THE REPUBLIC (VOL. 2) is a considerable improvement.
When last we left Hannah and her Traders’ Guild teammates, their mysterious speeder race through the desert ended badly when they were attacked by raiders. Hannah was injured and knocked unconscious, but she was dragged to safety by a stranger. Her teammates were, sadly, captured.
Now, Hannah wakes up under the care of Dave, a “freelancer” who offers to help Hannah for a price but may be operating under ulterior motives. With a lofty offer of money and citizenship, Dave leads Hannah past slave traders, searing heat, and rough terrain to her destination – an abandoned military facility containing a prize that could shift the balance of power in the region.

What did we like about DAYS OF THE REPUBLIC (VOL. 2)?
Vlad significantly improves on the first issue by fully revealing Hannah’s mission, or at least showing you what she finds, which goes a long way toward ending the volume on a solid cliffhanger, escalating the stakes in a pending attack by New New Mexico on the University, and infusing the story with some urgency. Storywise, volume 2 improves on the first volume.
What didn’t we like about DAYS OF THE REPUBLIC (VOL. 2)?
The primary downpoint of volume two is the dialog. Grammar and spelling mistakes are peppered throughout, and the conversations are as stiff as a board. In fairness, that stiffness could be an artifact of translations to English, but the robotic tone of the dialog is inescapable.
How’s the Art?
The art by Claudia Tomasi is perfectly good. This volume has a relatively balanced mix of action and conversation scenes, and all are executed with smooth transitions, excellent fight choreography, and a reasonable amount of tension.
Final Thoughts

DAYS OF THE REPUBLIC (VOL. 2) improves on volume one on nearly every level with better world-building, the tension surrounding the political stakes of the impending war, and much better clarity surrounding Hannah’s mission. Where volume one was a modest start, volume two shows significant promise.
