Was It Good?
Yes. It was good because there are actual stakes and consequences. The consequences in this issue have the potential to ripple out in the Blade Runner universe for decades to come.
The art continues to impress with clean lines and a Techno-European aesthetic that feels reminiscent of Blade Runner but unique enough to stand on its own.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
We pick up shortly after the end of the last issue (read our Blade Runner 2029 #3 review to get caught up). Yotun and his followers are getting ready to board a luxury cruise… without tickets, and Ash wakes up after being kidnapped by the redheaded replicant.
Yotun brutally dispatches the cruise ship’s security and takes over the controls from the captain. They set course along the predetermined flight plan to avoid drawing attention. When the cruise gets underway, Yotun makes a grand entrance in the dining hall to the rich and powerful passengers, including the mayor of L.A.
Ash awakes tied to a chair in Yotun’s hideout with only a few replicant guards around to keep watch. Kalia, one of Yotun’s lieutenants and a Nexus 6, explains they’re still alive after their expiration dates due to a “miracle.” From the last issues, it’s hinted this miracle has something to do with a form of replicant blood transfusion.
Back to the cruise, Yotun uses his captive audience as an opportunity to scold them over their skirting of replicant laws, their privilege, and their implied replicant slavery. The purpose of the cruise is to celebrate the completion of the Los Angeles seawall built to help the people of Los Angeles, and yet, replicant hands were partly responsible for this so-called engineering achievement.
Back to Ash. Jacs, a replicant Ash rescued in her time with the railroad, recognizes her and frees her as an act of gratitude. He leads her to another room where she sees what Yotun has been doing these past years, exposing the potential of his plan.
How Does It End?
Los Angeles needs a new mayor. The mystery of what happened to the Nexus 8s during the Blackout is solved. Los Angeles enters a new era in its history.
Final Thoughts
BLADE RUNNER 2029 #4, available from Titan Comics on April 8th, 2021, escalates the stakes of the story tenfold by initiating a plan with devastating consequences for Los Angeles. The art is thoughtful in its small moments awe-inspiring in the big ones. The replicant revolution has begun.
