Is It Good?
ZOMBIE MAKEOUT CLUB (VOL. 1): DEATHWISH is a tough Manga to get through. Peter Richardson’s gory violence and body horror strike you repeatedly with unsettling imagery that’s not for the faint of heart. The story, on the other hand, is non-existent.
In very loose, vague terms, and with help from a thorough preface page, a scientist uses Dark Science to resurrect people for some purpose never explained. The process only works on people who have died via suicide or murder. Through the relentless display of gore and violence, some of the “zombies” are revealed to be enemies and others are allies. That’s about as much as we could figure out.
Truly, there’s no discernible plot. This volume is a collection of random scenes, snippets of dialog, and lots of gore.
That said, the gore is well done. Richardson’s take on blood, splattered muscle tissue, and flying eyeballs is sure to make gorehounds happy. In the less violent moments, the character designs are distinctive, and Richardson’s panel compositions are visually interesting.

Final Thoughts

ZOMBIE MAKEOUT CLUB (VOL. 1): DEATHWISH is a brilliantly grotesque collection of scenes depicting gruesome violence and body horror. Unfortunately, there’s nothing in this volume that remotely resembles a story.
