Was It Good?
Yes, it was a strong and dramatic end to the current crisis. But if you believe the last page, it’s “to be continued,” not “the end.”
Sniegoski and the art team leave it all out on the field with this issue. It’s a knockdown drag-out fight between Nyx and Vampirella to relinquish control of Earth to Nyx and her demon hordes forever or to finally set Earth free from eternal darkness. There’s no messing around. No filler scenes. No panel wasted. It’s time to settle this and settle it they do.

The art from Sta. Maria and crew are still top-notch, but I daresay it’s been creeping up in quality the last few issues, especially with Ramalante Jr.’s coloring. The textures look richer and more detailed. It looks like there’s more layering going on in the art and it makes for a better and more eye-catching issue overall.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
There’s not a lot to cover in this section as the entire issue is one scene.
In the last issue, Vampirella was saved at the last minute by Abaddon from a fall to her death. In an act of sacrifice, he offered his blood to her which infused Vampirella with angelic power.
Vampirella rose from her crater in the street below with renewed life and restored wings. You can check out how that dramatic moment went down in our VENGEANCE OF VAMPIRELLA #18 review here.
Finally, a fully restored Vampirella, filled with righteous rage, faces off against Nyx in her Hemorrhage armor powered by the Lords of Chaos in the ultimate throwdown.
The tone and vibe of the entire issue are set up extremely well to push a sense of momentous happenings. Sniegoski fully fleshes out the idea that the whole world and underworld can feel something big is about to happen, and the outcome will change everything.
And then they fight. Taunting, howling blows are exchanged until finally, with a little help from Janine, only one is left standing.
We conclude the issue with a question: “What now?”
How Does It End?
The power given can be taken away. The Lords of Order prepared for this eventuality. It ain’t over yet.
Final Thoughts
VENGEANCE OF VAMPIRELLA #19 exemplifies the best kind of crescendo when building up a story over several issues. The writing builds excitement and anticipation before the first punch is thrown, and the art keeps getting better.
