What’s It About?

[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]

When last we left Vampirella, Adam Van Helsing turned on her during their mission to infiltrate Nyx’s stronghold. He’s been a sleeper agent since he came back and the turn surprises no one, except Vampirella. Read what led up to Vampirella’s betrayal in our VENGEANCE OF VAMPIRELLA #17 review.

Adam does his best to kill Vampirella, but he’s no match for her strength, and she snaps his neck. Unfortunately, the betrayal and heartbreak temporarily push Vampirella to lose her grip on her humanity and the fangs come out.

Meanwhile, Nyx is waiting in her throne room for the betrayal to run its course. In the middle of her gloating, the doors to her chamber are obliterated by Lord Mazarin wearing the Chaos Lords’ armor. Mazarin was sent to put Nyx in her place and bring her back under the heel of the Chaos Lords.

Nyx and Mazarin fight but Nyx is no match for the strength of the armor. Before Mazarin can deliver the killing blow, Vampirella charges in looking for bloody revenge for what Nyx did to Adam. Mazarin decides to take advantage of the intrusion and kill two birds with one stone.

Vampirella and Nyx are forced to defend themselves against Mazarin, but even combined, they aren’t strong enough. Mazarin holds both Vampirella and Nyx in a chokehold to start to drain their life away.

Suddenly, Jeannine arrives carrying the Dagger of Order and stabs Mazarin. The power of the dagger causes the armor to disintegrate, and Mazarin dies.

Vampirella rushes to Jeanine to make sure she’s alright. While she’s distracted, Nyx recovers and absorbs the nearby blood to don the Hemorrhage armor. This is a new look for Nyx. It’s demonic and powerful. The power of the armor is reminiscent of Marvel’s Carnage.

Hemorrhage attacks Vampirella, wounds her and shoves her out a window. Before Vampirella goes splat on the street below, we conclude the issue with a special light appearing in the sky.

How Does It End?

Order has contingencies in place. Vampirella does indeed hit the ground. Nyx takes profound pleasure in being surprised.

Final Thoughts

VENGEANCE OF VAMPIRELLA #18, available from Dynamite Comics on May 20th, 2021, the gloves are off as the last two are left standing for the big battle to come. They’re suited up, powered up, and incredibly motivated to kick each other’s ass. It’s a keeper.
