Is VAMPIRELLA VS. THE SUPERPOWERS #6 Good?
Dan Abnett brings the pulp noir adventure to a close with superpowered fights, a surprise reveal, and a glimmer of hope (suspicion?) for the future of Plural-1948. VAMPIRELLA VS. THE SUPERPOWERS #6 is a rare example of a mini-series ending as strongly as it started.
When last we left Vampirella, Dyna Might was arrested as a rogue super, and Agent Delaney was nicked as a conspirator. Vampirella barely managed to escape capture by taking to the skies. Now, Vampirella evades aerial hunters by secretly visiting Governor Masters to explain what she knows about the mastermind behind Plural-1948’s elixir problem. He doesn’t take the news well.
Technically, VAMPIRELLA VS. THE SUPERPOWERS #6 needs the mini-series with a satisfying conclusion, but the door is wide open for Dynamite to continue Vampirella’s reluctant partnership with The Project on Plural-1948 and beyond. We haven’t seen a formal announcement from Dynamite that any such title is in the works, but we’ll keep an eye out for more on behalf of our loyal readers.
What’s great about VAMPIRELLA VS. THE SUPERPOWERS #6? Dan Abnett pulls out all the stops with a twist reveal that you won’t see coming but one that makes perfect sense in hindsight. Once the puppetmaster’s identity is revealed, readers get a powerful battle with a surprising new foe to end the mini-series on a high note.
What’s not so great about VAMPIRELLA VS. THE SUPERPOWERS #6? This point isn’t a flaw but a point of preference. We would have liked to have seen the main villain appear earlier so that the final conflict could be bigger. As it is, the fight feels a tad rushed because it took so long to bring the villain out.
How’s the art? Pasquale Qualano’s art style impressively projects action, movement, and energy in every panel, even when the players are standing still. That said, there is one of two panels where the inks look a little rushed (e.g. Vampirella’s abs).

Check out our VAMPIRELLA VS. THE SUPERPOWERS #5 review to find out how The Project’s cover was blown.
We begin with Vampirella flying through the rainy night sky to evade the police helicopters and capture. After a hail of gunfire, the hunters believe Vampirella is dead. They’re wrong, and Vampirella used the cover of night to arrive at Governor Masters’s office.
Vampirella explains that she believes the mastermind bringing elixir to Plural-1948 from other worlds is [REDACTED], the evil despot responsible for this Earth’s first two superpowered wars. Governor Masters doesn’t believe it because he witnessed [REDACTED]’s death. We conclude the issue with proof, a twist, and a rescue.

VAMPIRELLA VS. THE SUPERPOWERS #6 brings the eclectic crime noir (with superheroes) to a close with a twist reveal, superpowered fights, and an intriguing ending. Dan Abnett is one of those rare writers who finishes a mini-series as strongly as it started, and Qualano’s art projects movement and energy on every page.
