Is VAMPIRELLA: DEAD FLOWERS #4 Good?
It all comes down to this. Sara Frazetta and Bob Freeman craft a finale that pits Vampirella’s supernatural force for good against the malignant warlock Fechin’s evil in VAMPIRELLA: DEAD FLOWERS #4, and the experience will change at least one character’s status quo for good.
When last we left Vampirella and her spooky friends, Frances Moore’s witchy ways met a painful end when she was tossed out a way and down onto the spiked gates below. Now unleashes the undead on Earth.
If the synopsis above sounds a little shorter compared to our typical reviews, that’s because this issue reads super-quick. Frazetta and Freeman keep the story laser-focused on the climactic battle and the consequences of its outcome. Sometimes, simple is best.
What’s great about VAMPIRELLA: DEAD FLOWERS #4? Frazetta and Freeman deliver a finale that’s clean, simple, and straight to the point, with a final fight between ancient enemies. If you’re a monster fan, you get all you could hope for with malicious warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and zombies. As a bonus, the epilogue engages in a subversive kind of 4th wall break that Frazetta fans will enjoy.
What’s not so great about VAMPIRELLA: DEAD FLOWERS #4? Resurrecting Fechin is a surefire way to pit Vampirella against a worthy foe, but he’s handled just a tad too quickly in the final fight. In fairness, the ending sets up the possibility of a rematch, but for now, the fight’s end wasn’t satisfying.
How’s the art? Great. Locatelli’s storybook style enhances the fairytale vibe of the story, which gives the tale a Gothic veneer. Admittedly, longtime Vampirella readers are used to heavy, dramatic shadows and grim atmosphere, but Locatelli is a good fit for this script.

Check out our VAMPIRELLA: DEAD FLOWERS #3 review to learn how Frances met a fitting end.
We begin with dark magic leaving Frances’s body after her death. The energy finds its way to the nearby graveyard and enters the buried body of Vampirella’s old enemy, Fechin. Suddenly, the old warlock’s eyes open, and he bursts from his grave.
Without a pause, Fechin casts a spell that brings the dead to life from all nearby graves, and he directs the zombies to attack Vampirella and her spooky friends. Hattie casts a shield to deflect Fechin’s magic, Randall changes into a werewolf to slash zombies to bits, and Vampirella flies to attack Fechin head-on.
We conclude the issue with blood, a new home, and a monster in the closet.

VAMPIRELLA: DEAD FLOWERS #4 brings the Gothic monster mash of a mini-series to a close with a climactic monster battle in a graveyard. Frazetta and Freeman end the story with a rousing fight and a pleasing meta-development in the epilogue, while Locatelli’s fantasy art is a perfect match for the script.
