Is VAMPIRELLA #668 Good?

In the last issue of Vampirella, we found her caught in a perplexing time loop, with her sister Draculina seemingly the key to breaking free. Victory, urging Vampirella to escape, takes extreme measures, leading to a chaotic scene where Victory is obliterated, and Vampirella is left on the brink of death.

This installment kicks off with a prologue featuring Shane, the Mad Astronaut, encountering primitive vampiric beings. Fast forward to Vampirella waking up from yet another dream loop, only to find herself in a grim reality where her loved ones are dead. As she grapples with the bizarre events unfolding, she seeks guidance from Lilith, only to be thrust into further confusion and danger. Meanwhile, Stan and Shane conspire to maintain the loop, fearing the consequences of Vampirella’s awakening. Amidst the chaos, Vampirella’s therapist attempts to unravel the mysteries surrounding her existence, leading to a shocking revelation.

What did we like about VAMPIRELLA #668?

The narrative, albeit convoluted, shows signs of progress as the pieces of the puzzle slowly come together. Despite its perplexing nature, the story keeps the reader engaged by introducing new twists and turns with each iteration of the time loop. The gradual improvement in art quality is noticeable, with better integration of characters into the backgrounds and more dynamic action sequences.

What didn’t we like about VAMPIRELLA #668?

The issue’s biggest flaw lies in its incomprehensible storyline, which fails to provide clarity or coherence. Attempting to build upon previous Interstellar arc only adds to the confusion, leaving readers scratching their heads in bewilderment. Christopher Priest’s writing, while ambitious, falls short in delivering a cohesive narrative, resulting in a frustrating reading experience.

How’s the Art?

The art by Ergün Gündüz shows signs of improvement, with better integration of characters and backgrounds. However, there are still instances of stiff and awkward poses, detracting from the overall visual appeal. While the use of action lines adds some dynamism to the scenes, the characters’ expressions often feel lacking in detail and emotion.
