Was It Good?
TWIZTID: HAUNTED HIGH-ONS: THE CURSE OF THE GREEN BOOK #2 is a heavy mouthful for a title, but don’t let that fool you. Issue #2 is chock full of light, spooky, wholesome fun.
Of all the Source Point titles released in the past year, this series is one of the most surprising. The series mixes a straightforward spooky adventure ala Scooby-Doo Mysteries with a lovable gang of goofballs who are all heart, even if their ghost-hunting skills need a lot of fine-tuning. Everything about this issue is focused on entertaining the readers, and it succeeds.
Besides the energetic and entertaining tone, is a well-crafted plot about a visit to the Voodoo King to retrieve the Green Book. Manning and the team create an issue with a rock-solid storytelling foundation. There’s a clear beginning, middle, and end (it’s amazing how rarely you find that in comics these days), just enough exposition to fill in the mystery without giving it fully away, an inventive action scene, and transition ending that seamlessly sets up the next leg of the journey. Again, it’s amazing how well a comic reads and progresses the story when creators adhere to a basic, solid foundation.
Coupled with the solid story is simple yet deceptively effective art by de Fornasari. The character compositions are flawless, the coloring is phenomenal, and the little special effects integrated into Jamie’s “attack” are impressive.
You may not care for the subject matter or the characters, depending on your tastes, but this is a technically flawless comic.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
If you don’t know why our ghostly trio are after the Green Book, first read our TWIZTID: HAUNTED HIGH-ONS: THE CURSE OF THE GREEN BOOK #1 review.
We begin with Jamie and Paul hitching a boat ride through the Marsh Lagoon to find the cabin of the Voodoo King, possessor of the Green Book. Felicia floats nearby, and she’s wary after sensing an unnatural presence.
The boys make it to the cabin where they’re promptly confronted by the Voodoo King. The King is suspicious of their intentions but quickly learns the boys are on the side of doing right. The King reveals that he’s known Lady Homshabom for a very long time and loved almost as long but they parted ways over a disagreement over what to do with the book’s power. Suddenly, Jamie’s limbs are seized by a purplish light that forces him to move beyond his control.
We conclude the issue with a lesson about Obeah-Poppets, the reveal that the Voodoo King has friends in the swamp, and an unconventional snack time.

The writing is pitch-perfect for the characters and the tone of the story, and the art is technically flawless. This series is turning out to be the most entertaining offering from Source Point in some time.
