Is It Good?
TITAN: MOUSE OF MIGHT #3 is the issue readers have been waiting for, so if you’ve liked this series to this point, you’re in for a treat. Gary Shipman pays off the hints and teases about Titan’s first months on Earth in a big way for the most satisfying issue to date.
When last we left Titan, he infiltrated the lab where he was poked and prodded for months. His mission? Find Asher before the young mouse experiences a worse fate. Unfortunately, another victim of the lab’s experiments was ready and waiting. Now, Titan must fight an old enemy and an old friend to secure Asher’s release.
Don’t let the cartoonish concept of an alien mouse in a Batman-like costume fool you. This story is taut, dramatic, and surprisingly mature. It has the visual characteristics of children’s adventure ala The Incredibles or The Secret of NIMH, but Titan’s experiences, his trauma, and the dramatic situations read more like a grim thriller along the same lines as James Bond or Mission: Impossible.
Better still, the main down point of the previous issues has been the lack of clarity about how, why, and when Titan developed a traumatic experience with the lab. Now, we get the sorely-lacking clarity, and it makes a world of sense and difference by establishing an empathic link between the reader and Titan’s trauma. If the reader can relate to the motivations behind Titan’s action, he becomes an easier character to care about.
Regarding the art, this is the first issue where you get to see Titan interact with human characters and it looks better than expected. Rather than having the size difference create an almost comedic contrast, Shipman’s use of perspective treats Titan like a man in a world of terrifying giants, which increases the tension factor.

Check out our TITAN: MOUSE OF MIGHT #2 review to learn the connection between Asher and Titan.
We begin with a flashback to six months ago. Researchers find Titan’s injured body in the woods after the interdimensional explosion left Titan stranded on Earth. Prof. Nimoy, the head scientist, has a personal desire to learn all there is to know about interdimensional portals, and he’s not afraid to experiment on Titan’s injured body to find answers.
Now, Titan fights the disfigured mouse standing before him. The mindless beast has bare hints of intelligence, and Titan manages to get through to the monster, only to be horrified to learn the monster is his friend, Malcom, twisted and distorted by Prof. Nimoy’s experiments.
We conclude the issue with a trap, a vision, and an ultimatum.
