Is THUNDERCATS #1 Good?
First Impressions:
THUNDERCATS #1 purrs like a lion. It stays true to the classic cartoon yet throws in a twist late in Act 3 that claws its way into uniqueness. Whether it’s an alternate universe or a different timeline, this Thundercats roars fresh while respecting its roots.
Story & Script:
Declan Shelby picks up three weeks after the Thundercats crash-land on their new home. They’re adjusting, hunting, and establishing a life. Lion-O, still young in mind despite his grown body, clashes with Panthro, his mentor. Reckless and eager to lead, Lion-O encounters Slithe and the Mu’Tants, leading to a battle with a twist that shakes his status as king. (No spoilers here!) This twist sets the series apart, promising an intriguing mystery.
What’s Good About THUNDERCATS #1:
- Solid adaptation with a modern feel.
- Familiar, but not dated, costumes and character designs.
- Mature story that’s more action-adventure than kiddie cartoon.
What Could Be Better In THUNDERCATS #1:
- The twist comes a bit late. Earlier hints would telegraph the unique direction.
- While familiar, the story might feel repetitive until the twist.
Art:
Drew Moss delivers! He captures the characters’ body types, movements, and costumes faithfully, with modern tweaks for a fresh look.
