What is THOUGHTSCAPE COMICS #1 About?

Parish, The Thought, Part 1

Officer Parish Query patrols the outer reaches of known space to protect the interests of the LifeTech corporation. The ThoughtScape is a plane of reality where thoughts can be harvested for a myriad of uses, including product development and researching the existence of God. On one of her patrols, Officer Query encounters a space church whose worshippers were attacked by someone or something.

The first part of this serial story ends with Officer Query infiltrating the damaged church without a clue as to what dangers she’ll find.

A Spy Without A Face

A squadron of Black Ops soldiers raid a LifeTech artificial human development lab where the next generation of spies are in their last stages of growth. One humanoid awakens from his bed to fight back, but it isn’t long before the being is blown to pieces by devastating gunfire. When the Black Ops soldiers assess the damage, they fail to notice a second spy arising to attack from behind.

When the smoke clears, the entire Black Ops team is wiped out, and the only being left standing is a spy without a face.

Adorable Orphans

Young Betty’s parents disagree with the stories her Grammie reads to her while she’s babysitting. Eventually, Grammie is no longer considered welcome to babysit because she refuses to comply with Betty’s parents’ wishes.

Later, Grammie begins sending presents by mail in the form of the latest toy trend, Adorable Orphan dolls. Each doll comes with a compelling story about how they became orphans, they make perfect companions for Betty, and each doll has an assortment of skills, including tying knots and cooking

When Betty arranges a special dinner for her parents, prepared by the Adorable Orphans, the night takes a terrifying turn.

Ex Post Facto: A Dash Varrick Misadventure, Part 1

Dash Varrick reminisces about the past, present, and future while standing over a dead body. Before Dash decides which way, where, and when his mind is going, the police break down the door to take Dash into custody.

What did we like about THOUGHTSCAPE COMICS #1?

Set in the not-too-distant future, Mair Lowery’s collection of short stories and first chapters hits the future dystopian premise on the head with an imaginative array of ideas. Some shorts take a little brain power to grasp, primarily the Dash Varrick adventure, but every short has something to say and begs for exploration.

What didn’t we like about THOUGHTSCAPE COMICS #1?

Most notably, the Dash Varrick story tries too hard to be esoteric and thought provoking before quickly devolving into post-modern gibberish. It’s one thing to have an idea that can only be told in pieces because it’s too big to simplify. It’s another to have a main character that appears to be tripping on multiple psychedelics.

How’s the Art?

The art ranges from good to great. Each short or part has a different artist on duty with wholly unique styles, so there’s no one critique to give for this issue. On the whole, we’re pleased with the visuals.

Final Thoughts

(Click this link 👇 to order this comic)

THOUGHTSCAPE COMICS #1 is a weirdly wild science fiction anthology that takes readers to the edges of thought and space and back to a little girl’s backyard. Each short has a strong central premise, and the team of artists brings a heap of variety.

Score: 7.8/10
