Was It Good?
Yes. It works well as a breather issue to provide more world-building and context to the aliens visiting Earth. Orion is not the first visitor, and this new information about Jeb’s experience has the potential to change the nature of Orion’s relationship with Thomas in a fundamental way.
The art in this issue is consistent with the prior issues and right in line with the YA-ish nature of the material. The art is accessible and almost playful but not too far down the maturity ladder to be considered a children’s book.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
Almost the entire issue is a flashback to Old Jeb as a young boy. If you’re not sure who Old Jeb is or where we left off, read our THEY FELL FROM THE SKY #2 review to get caught up.
Young Jeb and his older brother, Abel, have fallen on hard times. They live paycheck to paycheck from Abel’s job while staying in a Motel. One day as Abel walks Jeb to school, they’re confronted by a smallish alien who looks similar to Orion. The alien calls himself Mimic and he holds the two young men at gunpoint with a ray gun.
Abel and Jeb can’t take him seriously as a threat due to his size and appearance, so Abel knocks the ray gun out of his hand and holds it up by the scruff of his furry neck. Overpowered, Mimic explains he’s on Earth as an explorer to learn about humans.
Pause for a second. This part was a little tough to swallow. Sure, Mimic is small and “cuddly” but he’s got a scar through one eye and he’s firing warning shots with a ray gun. Cuddly or not, these two young men are way too confident and casual about meeting a potentially hostile alien. Regardless, Jeb and Abel accept Mimic’s explanation and proceed to show him around. The sites, the food, and the customs are all shared without hesitation.
One day, Jeb is abducted by another set of aliens on his walk to school. They stun him, and he wakes up on an alien ship orbiting Earth. Helmas, their leader, explains Mimic is a wanted murderer and they need Jeb’s help to capture him. At first, Jeb doesn’t believe it but Helmas shows photo evidence to prove the claim. The aliens give Jeb a homing beacon and ask him to activate it the next time he sees Mimic.
When Jeb is delivered back home, he finds Abel cooking dinner for them, Mimic, and some of Mimic’s friends who have just arrived. They all look like unpleasant folks, so Jeb is quickly buying into the idea of Mimic as an escaped criminal.
Jeb urgently asks Abel to speak with him outside and alone after he activates the homing beacon. Outside, Jeb explains what happened during his abduction but before they can make a plan, Mimic interrupts holding the homing beacon. He doesn’t deny the charges but he also explains Helmas is just as untrustworthy and murderous as he is.
Soon, multiple ships arrive to conclude the issue with a disastrous result.
How Does It End?
Helmas breaks the deal. Many people die. And some scars stay with you.
Final Thoughts
THEY FELL FROM THE SKY #3, available from Mad Cave Studios on April 14th, 2021, is an excellent breather issue that builds out the world and casts the Thomas/Orion relationship in a new light. The art is perfect for the source material, and despite some minor credibility strains, this issue makes the series feel bigger.
