Is THE SCORCHED #27 Good?
In the previous issue, The Scorched managed to fight off a demon who is the sister of Vindicator from hell. Spawn showed up and wiped out any opposition, revealing a big problem that needs to be solved. The dead zones on Earth have expanded, leaving everyone powerless if they draw their power from heaven or hell.
In this issue, the team is put on the defensive when The Agency comes back from the ashes for payback. The entire team is on Earth, powerless and exposed, being hunted by enemies they’ve made since the beginning. Haunt, aka Daniel Kilgore, is the only team member with powers, laying waste to their enemies.
The tension and drama are higher as everyone, including Spawn, is now mortal after the events of Spawn #350. The reveal of Jason Wynn’s return from the dead as the new head of The Agency adds a surprising twist with potential wide impacts for all the Spawnverse titles.

What did we like about THE SCORCHED #27?
The action sequences in The Scorch #27 are particularly engaging, offering a dynamic and intense portrayal of combat. The grounded military-level action adds a sense of realism to the story, making the stakes feel even higher for the characters. Additionally, the tension and vulnerability of the team members, now stripped of their powers and exposed on Earth, heighten the drama and suspense of the narrative. Furthermore, the introduction of Haunt as the only team member retaining powers adds an interesting dynamic to the team, showcasing a unique blend of abilities amidst the powerlessness of the rest of the group. Overall, The Scorch #27 succeeds in delivering gripping action, compelling character dynamics, and a sense of urgency that keeps readers hooked from start to finish.
What didn’t we like about THE SCORCHED #27?
While The Scorch #27 excels in many aspects, there are a few shortcomings worth mentioning. Firstly, the opening prologue, while setting the stage for the story’s current status quo, feels somewhat unnecessary and could have been condensed or integrated more seamlessly into the main narrative. The time spent on these pages could have been allocated to further developing the plot or characters in a more impactful manner.
How’s the Art?
Steven Segovia’s art, along with Robert Nugent’s colors, is fantastic. It’s up there with what you would expect from a Spawn-related title, following in Todd McFarlane’s legacy. Although not at Todd McFarlane levels, it’s close enough and pretty darn good.
