Was It Good?

Yes, it was good. Edge-of-your-seat good.

Daniel and Moreci’s writing expertly sets up building tension — from the approaching storm to the monster’s attack on the Blaine children. Every page is constantly pushing the readers to root for the Blaines to “get the monster.”

It’s thrilling action mixed with incredibly moody and dramatic art by the whole team.

What’s It About?

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

We begin with Chase watching over his family on an increasingly stormy night. He stands guard, diligently scanning the nearby bogs for any unnatural movement.

As the night grows long, weather reports of a massive storm approaching could be heard in the Blaine House and the Sheriff’s office. The deputy tries to call Chase to check-in but nobody answers.

As Chase and the children sleep fitfully near the fireplace, floodwaters seep through the doors and wake Chase up. Mackenzie and Chase decide to investigate the extent of the flooding, and despite Mackenzie’s protests, Chase follows the flow of water into the basement. Chase returns without incident, but the two don’t realize something is rising from the water down below.

Chase hears the phone ringing in the kitchen and leaves the children to answer it. The beast emerges soundlessly from the shadows and begins to strangle Chase until he blacks out.

While unconscious, Chase is visited by a vision of his father. This is a key scene in the series as Chase has an opportunity to cathartically tell his deceased father how keeping the family secret has cost them everything.

Chase awakes hearing the children yelling from the living room. The beast has them cornered and moves in to attack. What follows is 10 straight pages of tooth and nail combat from a family fighting for their lives. Without spoiling the ending, we’ll say the fight is far from over.

Final Thoughts

THE PLOT #7, available from Vault Comics on November 25th, 2020, pits family against monster in a desperate fight for survival with Mother Nature knocking at the door. The art is atmospherically moody, and the pace will have you biting your nails with every page turn.
