Is THE MIGHTY BARBARIANS #6 Good?
Michael Moreci’s entertaining superhero team-up book with a barbarian twist comes to an end with tons of personality, nail-biting action, and a twist ending that could spell trouble if the title gets a sequel. In a rare case where a mini-series ends better than it started, THE MIGHTY BARBARIANS #6 is a rockin’ finale.
When last we left the barbarian supergroup, they collected all the orbs of power save one to defeat the Darkness. Now, the group assembles at the base of Valusia to attack the Darkness where it lives and steal the last orb to send the Darkness back to where it came from.
As a bonus, Moreci poses (and eventually answers) the one question mostly ignored up to this point – who summoned the Darkness out of its eternal slumber? While the answer isn’t necessary for the finale to reach its climax, it does foreshadow bigger troubles down the line once you see the answer.
What’s great about THE MIGHTY BARBARIANS #6? When you have a collection of barbarian warriors fighting for the fate of the world, you expect some fighting. Moreci meets and exceed expectation on that front with a (nearly) issue-long battle that ebbs and flows on a roller coaster of momentum. You believe one or more barbarians could die at any moment, so victory isn’t a sure thing, and that’s the kind of action finale readers want.
What’s not so great about THE MIGHTY BARBARIANS #6? The minor downpoint is a bit of confusing action/choreography when Anansi shapeshifts into a giant monster. Some of the panels during Anansi’s fight are too close, so you can’t really tell what’s happening.
How’s the art? Except for the confusing bit during Anansi’s fight scene, the book looks great. Cafaro’s action choreography is frenetic, the panel layouts are creative, and the panel compositions play up the dramatic beats.

What’s THE MIGHTY BARBARIANS #6 About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our THE MIGHTY BARBARIANS #5 review to find out how the team managed to survive the latest assault.
We begin with the team assembling at the base of Valusia. Kull laments he had to kill Brule to get this far, and he swears Darkness will pay for Brule’s death. They know they have one objective- fight through Darkness’s forces to get the last orb so Morgan can send Darkness from whence it came.
Surprisingly, there are no surprises. The team enters the volcano, and Darkness sends its demonic forces in response. We conclude the issue with a battle for the ages, the return of the wizard, and a mischievous puppet master.

THE MIGHTY BARBARIANS #6 brings the mighty mini-series to a close with a massive battle to save the world from Darkness. Moreci gives readers exactly what they need from a barbarian action comic, and Cafaro’s action art is (mostly) on-point.
