Recap:

In Space Quest/Jonny Quest: Space Quest #2, the Quest family found themselves in the Nevada desert investigating alien tech, which led to a teleportation mishap. Jonny and Hadji were zapped into deep space, while Jan and Jace ended up back on Earth. Both duos then met up with some surprising allies: Jonny and Hadji joined forces with the legendary Space Ghost, while Jan and Jace teamed up with their original crew back on Earth. This mix-up set the stage for two parallel adventures as Jan and Jace try to get home while Jonny and Hadji try to survive.

Plot Analysis:

This issue kicks off with Space Ghost facing down Dr. Nightmare, a formidable foe he’s encountered before. Jonny Quest, piloting their ship, finds himself in a tight spot as Dr. Nightmare’s planet lives up to its name, launching an immediate assault on their vessel. While Jonny struggles to keep them airborne, Space Ghost unleashes his powers, taking the fight directly to the monstrous threat outside.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, the rest of the Quest team, including Dr. Benton Quest, Jan, and Jace, are investigating the mysterious events surrounding the teleportation mishap. They discover more about the alien technology that caused the family’s separation, coaxing Dr. Bannon to concoct a scheme that will evacuate the military base so that he can build a device that will help Jan and Jace to get back home.

As the action escalates, Space Ghost continues his fierce battle with Dr. Nightmare’s monsters, showcasing his raw power and determination. Jonny’s inexperience at flying a spaceship causes them to crash land on Nightmare’s planet, where he and Hadji are surrounded by more mechanical monsters. Back on Earth, the team makes a significant discovery related to the alien tech, conveniently when Race Bannon drops in to help, literally.

The issue concludes with both storylines at critical junctures. Jonny and Space Ghost are still locked in a desperate struggle against Dr. Nightmare, fighting his largest monster yet. Meanwhile, the Earth-bound team uncovers more about the nature of the interdimensional travel.

Story

Joe Casey delivers a punchy and action-packed script that keeps the story moving at an electric pace. He manages to balance two separate storylines without making either feel underdeveloped, which is a neat trick. The dialogue is sharp, especially Space Ghost’s confident lines and Jonny’s frantic pleas as he tries to pilot a spaceship under attack. The narrative flows well, building tension effectively in both the cosmic battle and the Earth-side investigation. It’s clear storytelling that doesn’t get bogged down in unnecessary details, making for a brisk and exciting read.

Art

Sebastián Píriz’s art is phenomenal in this issue. The line work is clean and dynamic, making the action sequences jump off the page. Lorenzo Scaramella’s colors are vibrant and set the mood perfectly, especially during Space Ghost’s energy blasts and the eerie atmosphere of Dr. Nightmare’s planet.
