Analysis of SPACE GHOST #10:
Recap:
When we last left the galaxy’s greatest vigilante in Space Ghost #9, the armored menace known as Metallus invaded the Galactic Federation’s home world with his unstoppable army. Space Ghost fought Metallus with everything he had, but his strength wasn’t enough. Thankfully, Jan and Jace discovered a flaw in Metallus’s mechanized design that gave Space Ghost the edge he needed to bring the would-be dictator down.
Plot Analysis:
In Space Ghost #10, a new adventure begins. Dr. Zorket monitors his latest experiment near the event horizon of a black hole. Suddenly, a power spike erupts near his beacon platform, and a mysterious figure who looks almost exactly like Space Ghost emerges from the mist. Space Spectre has arrived from the future. His first act? He kills Dr. Zorket to save thousands of lives that would have died at the hands of Dr. Zorket’s rock robots… that he hasn’t invented yet.
Later, Jan and Jace perform a stakeout in Inviso-mode while keeping an eye on Robo Corp’s nefarious leader, Dr. Ibal. Dr. Ibal is busy preparing to launch his new Ultima Satellite Project when Space Spectre arrives to crash the party. Space Spectre corners Dr. Ibal to demand all data on Project Ultima. Jan, Jace, and Space Ghost rush to the scene, but they’re no match for Space Spectre’s advanced weaponry. Space Spectre incapacitates Space Ghost and warns him to stay out of his way. To prove he’s doing the right thing, Space Spectre unmasks to show Space Ghost his identity.
Later, Space Ghost, Jan, and Jace rush to the Ultima rocket to prevent its destruction. If Space Spectre destroys the rocket, the experimental crystals inside could erupt and kill millions. Space Spectre and the heroes arrive at the rocket at the same time, commencing a cataclysmic battle. Dr. Ibal orders his technicians to fire the rocket to prevent the deaths of the surrounding citizens, even if it means killing Space Ghost and his sidekicks.
The issue ends with Space Spectre nullifying the heroes, Jan taking a fall that forces Space Spectre to make a fateful choice, and an old enemy following Space Spectre’s trail.
First Impressions:
Now, THAT’S how you build anticipation for the future. I don’t know what magic writing juice David Pepose chugs before he writes his Space Ghost scripts, but whatever he’s taking, he should share some of it with his colleagues at Marvel and DC.
Artwork and Presentation:
Jonathan Lau gives you raw, powerful imagery to portray a Space Ghost from the future that won’t stop destroying until he’s “fixed” destiny. Space Ghost’s battle with Space Spectre is a match of macho, powerful titans, and Lau’s action is a cinematic spectacle.

Story Positives & Negatives:
The Positives:
David Pepose takes even a one-and-done issue, designed to foreshadow things to come, and turns it into a power-packed adventure. From start to finish, Space Ghost #10 is a first-rate comic.
The Negatives:
For a story about a “villain” from the future, Space Spectre’s knowledge of things that have already come to pass is strangely sketchy. Why would a man from the future need to know the data for the Ultima Project? Isn’t the project a matter of historical record where he comes from?
The Bigger Picture:
Series Continuity:
If you haven’t heard by now, yes, Space Ghost will appear in a crossover miniseries with Jonny Quest. Spacequest #1 will be released in March 2025, and you can bet your bottom dollar we’ll be covering it.
Final Thoughts:

SPACE GHOST #10 is a rip-roaring adventure from front to back when a strangely familiar figure arrives from the future to wreak havoc on the present. David Pepose’s script busts at the seams with drama, action, and suspense. Plus, Jonathan Lau’s artwork is practically glorious.
