Is It Good?
SOMETHING JUICY (ONE-SHOT) is not a comic for readers with weak stomachs. It’s filled with High School bully angst, body image insecurities that plague almost every teenager, vomit, and more. Therefore, we loved it!
Clark’s script reads like one of the better episodes of Tales From The Crypt or a short out of Creepshow. Horror stories where the bully gets their comeuppance are nothing new, but Clark’s story is unique in that the story is told from the bully’s point of view. You know the bully is wrong, the bully knows she’s wrong, but you almost feel a twinge of sympathy for her when her quest to bully someone goes too far. Almost.
When the horror element is revealed, it’s every body-horror lover’s dream… or worst nightmare. The explanation makes sense, the karmic reversal is satisfying, and the ending hits a gore high-note that leaves you wanting to wash your hands.
Admittedly, Clark’s loosely sketched, watercolor art style may not be to everyone’s taste, but it suits his well. The camera angle selections are excellent, the referenced depictions of the “monster” taken from real-world biology photos amps up the realism factor, and the sound effect lettering aggravates the gross factor exponentially.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
We begin with Taylor Masterson – High School pretty girl, cheerleader, and mean girl bully. When overweight Patty arrived in the same school, Taylor made it her mission to torment “Patty the Fatty” at every turn.
At the start of the school year, Patty started changing. She became thinner and more confident, and the boys started to take notice; including Taylor’s ex-boyfriend Nick Marsh. Taylor decides to take matters into her hands by breaking into Patty’s home and looking for information she can use to torment Patty.
When Taylor enters Patty’s empty room, she quickly discovers Patty’s diary. Taylor finds a spot to hide and begins reading Patty’s private thoughts, only to discover the secret to Patty’s newfound health and happiness is worse than she could have imagined. We conclude the issue with eggs and spaghetti.
