Is It Good?
SNOW WHITE: ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE #2 is interesting, but it has shortcomings which may cause some readers to question whether or not to continue with the series. The dialog and wit work extremely well, but the plot and pacing stumble.
In the first issue, Prince Charming barely managed to escape a zombie attack, and his hasty retreat through the woods led to the discovery of a beautiful, sleeping woman in a glass casket, ready to be kissed.
Meanwhile, a lethal heroine fought her way through her own zombie troubles and ran into the Prince right after he delivered love’s true kiss.
Now, we learn the fighting heroine is none other than Rapunzel, who has a troubled history with Prince Charming, and she’s none too pleased to find her ex-beau kissing a corpse.
The charm that made such a positive impression in the first issue by Brenton Lengel is still present. Irreverent twists on classic characters can be a gamble, but Lengel makes it work with wit, amusing snark, and gore. Where this second issue struggles is in the plot, or more specifically, the lack of plot.
After two issues, it’s not clear what this story is all about. If you go by the title, this is a Snow White story. Yet, Snow isn’t in the first issue other than as a lifeless body for a few pages, and in this issue, she acts as an oddly single-minded princess who wants to marry the Prince. If you can’t figure out where the story is headed after two issues, that’s a red flag.
To be clear, this issue isn’t terrible. Lengel compensates for the lack of plot or direction with massive amounts of intriguing charm by the characters. However, that charm is starting to wear out its welcome if the story doesn’t get moving.
That said, the highlight of the issue is Hyeondo Park’s dynamic, expressive art. The characters flex and move like they were made for top-tier animation. Park adds a touch of whimsy to the corners of fabrics and wisps of hair to suggest movement in every panel. This comic looks like it’s in a perpetual state of motion.

Check out our SNOW WHITE: ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE #1 review to find out how Prince Charming found Snow White.
We begin where issue #1 left off. The fighting maiden, now revealed to be Rapunzel, confronts Prince Charming for kissing what she believes is a corpse. Through a flashback, we learn Rapunzel, aka Zel, has a past with Charming, and she’s incensed over his kissing practices.
While the former lovers argue, Snow White awakes from her curse-induced slumber and expresses unflappable joy over finding her true love and future husband, throwing more drama gas on the fire. Eventually, the trio decides to make their way out of the forest toward any place that might offer shelter.
We conclude the issue with a third love interest, more zombies, and not enough Prince Charming to go around.

SNOW WHITE: ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE #2 retains the irreverent wit and surreal charm of the first issue, with interesting dialog and top-notch art. However, the plot is nowhere to be found.
