Analysis of SILVERHAWKS #3:

Plot:

SilverHawks #3 begins with a pair of IFB agents on the Planet of Mimes searching for a stolen item reportedly belonging to MonStar. The aliens responsible for the theft are ready to blast their ship into orbit if needed. Suddenly, WindHammer unleashes a tempest on the planet, supposedly to find and trap the thieves. The SilverHawks receive the distress call and arrive on the scene, easily capturing WindHammer. However, the mission ends badly when MonStar arrives to rescue WindHammer and tear the SilverHawks apart.

Artwork and Presentation:

Admittedly, George Kambadais’s art style is an acquired taste. His wonky anatomy proportions, lack of panel depth, and flatness bring the visual experience closer to the cartoon. That said, the goal should be to improve on the cartoon’s weaknesses, not make them more prevalent.

Character Work:

Ed Brisson did a fine, albeit too-quick, job setting up the new Quicksilver to join the team after a devastating injury. Here, Brisson builds on Quicksilver’s journey by forcing him to step up when the original team members are slaughtered.

Structure:

The plot structure is weak. Brisson leaps from plot point to plot point with little connective tissue, expecting the reader to fill in the gaps on their own. You can follow the individual moments as they unfold, such as Atticus’s story about his people, but we don’t know why it’s brought up or how it’s connected to the plot.

Strongest Point(s):

The highlight of SilverHawks #3 is the brutal last scene. Oddly, that surprise turn makes this comic somewhat unsuitable for kids, but it’s a game-changing surprise in an otherwise unremarkable issue.

Weakest Point(s):

The weak point of the comic is Ed Brisson’s poorly defined narrative flow. You jump from one person and one scene to the next with little context or association between the points. You feel like you’re reading a script written in bullet points.

Final Thoughts:

SILVERHAWKS #3 introduces another classic SilverHawks villain to the reboot as Mon*Star lays the smackdown on the original team. Honestly, this is a down issue. Kambadais’s art looks cheap, and Brisson’s script feels incomplete and lacks an organic flow.

Score: 4/10
