Is It Good?
SHERLOCK: A SCANDAL IN BELGRAVIA PART 2 #2 continues the direct adaptation of the BBC series with a pivotal moment in the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler. This issue captures that moment beautifully, brimming with cat-and-mouse tension and electric chemistry.
It shouldn’t be any surprise that Moffat, the writer of the television series, is able to adapt to the same moment with such charm and emotion in comic form. If you’re unfamiliar with the show and the specific episode this series adapts, Sherlock confronts a “resurrected” Irene Adler in a bid to get her to unlock the smartphone code and extract the information that will avert some impending but undefined disaster. Simply with the power of his words, Sherlock manages to extract enough information to find out who, what, and where the disaster will occur, even if he doesn’t get the unlocked code that will offer the key to stopping it.
Honestly, you should watch the show, but if you choose not to, this adaptation will do just as well. The pacing is lightning fast, Jet’s artistic ability to convey the heat between Sherlock and Adler is exquisite, and the Manga-styled art puts a unique twist on the proceedings to set the comic apart from the show.
In all, this comic is as close and as good as a comic adaptation gets, so if you haven’t watched the spectacular BBC show, this comic will be an equal treat.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Learn how Sherlock became aware of Irene Adler’s resurrection in our SHERLOCK: A SCANDAL IN BELGRAVIA PART 2 #1 review.
We begin with Sherlock in his flat, questioning Irene Adler about her smartphone. Slowly, their quid pro quo leads to a succession of revelations about the phone’s contents and how Irene acquired them. What Irene doesn’t know is what the all-important means. All she has is an encrypted code in a snapshot.
Sherlock wades through Irene’s obvious attempts at flirting to discern what is truth and what is not. Given the chance to look at the snapshot with the encryption cipher, Sherlock discerns something is about to happen on a plane bound for Boston. A bomb is the most likely possibility.
We conclude the issue lies, truth, attraction, and the duplicity of hard choices made by governments.
