Is It Good?
THE SHEPHERD: THE VALENTINE #2 is creepy, tragic, and strangely gratifying for a supernatural tale of murder. Andrea Lorenzo Molinari and Roberto Xavier Molinari deliver a second act in this three-parter that will give you chills and thrills in equal measure.
When last we left Alexis and Nice, their friend Vee led them to the spot where a bad man still possessed the Valentine gift Vee made for her mother, only to find much more than they bargained for. Now, Alexis and Nico run for their lives before a murderous child predator can make them his next victim.
In terms of plot and story, this issue is as simple as it gets. Children find evidence of a murder, the murderer shows up, and the children run until the chase reaches a [REDACTED] conclusion. However, simplicity isn’t a bad thing because the Molinaris ratchet up the pace, tension, twists, and turns to send readers on a heartstopping rollercoaster ride.
Better still, the chase doesn’t end the way you think it will. This is a supernatural comic, after all, so expect the unexpected.
Likewise, Jamie Martínez Rodríguez’s art captures the essence of a grounded horror story while seamlessly blending in supernatural elements that feel organic to the characters and the scenery. Vee’s presence carries a light, surreal shimmer to embody the undead as a soulful presence rather than a cheap ghost, and it looks great.

Check out our review of THE SHEPHERD: THE VALENTINE #1 review to find out what Alexis and Nico found in the abandoned building.
We begin with Alexis and Nico shocked by the horrific discovery of Vee’s body. Vee’s spirit urges them to quickly find the Valentine she made for her mother and deliver the long-lost token of love to the address inside Vee’s coat. Vee frantically begins begging Alexis and Nico to run, but they get going just a minute too late.
Vee’s killer stands in the doorway, and he lunges for the intruders. Nico hits the killer with his staff, temporarily stunning him and giving the siblings a chance to run to the street below.
We conclude the issue with a harried chase, a dead end, and an unexpected assist.
