Is It Good?
Yes, we’re being a bit cheeky with the description blurb above, but this comic has one of those “once you see it, you can’t unsee it” revelations. Despite males representing the majority of characters in this comic, every one of them is either evil or incompetent. Why? Who knows except possibly to justify putting Sheena in a position to save the day all by herself.
Beyond the weird observation about men, this is a rock-solid issue in the same realm as Indiana Jones and King Kong with a healthy twist of The Land That Time Forgot. That’s a potent mix of pulp adventure, and this issue has that same vibe of danger, thrills, and spills with every page turn.
Regarding the writing execution, the script is well-paced, the dialog is excellent, the plot points relentlessly, and the cliffhanger wallops you with an “Oh, #%@$!” moment that will have fans of those previously mentioned properties salivating. This is a straight-up fun pulp adventure.
Silva’s art is phenomenal in this issue, particularly in the flashback prologue to Captain Visser’s start on his mission. The line work is super-detailed, the sets are pretty enough to be hung on a wall, and the coloring depth is excellent. This is a visually stunning comic and worth the cover price for the artwork alone.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE (VOL. 2) #8 review to learn how Captain Visser was exposed as a Nazi.
We begin with a flashback to 1945 in Nazi Germany. Captain Visser receives orders directly from Hitler to captain an experimental submarine to Japan, intending to help the Japanese turn the tide in the Pacific and weaken the Allied forces in Europe as they move to reinforce the Navy. The sub encounters two Australian battleships and becomes severely damaged in the battle before escaping. The sub eventually finds a safe harbor on a mysterious island to rest and make repairs.
Now, Captain Visser explains how he crossed paths with the local tribes, hoping to find enough materials to make repairs. Unfortunately, one of his men was inappropriate with one of the tribal women, and the Captain and his men were captured in retaliation. Freed, Captain Visser holds Sheena’s friends at gunpoint, intending to use their plan for parts to complete the repairs. When Sheena moves to stop them, one of the tribal warriors knocks her out, declaring the time of the matriarchy to be over.
We conclude the issue with a very bad attempt at proving time travel and the start of a sacrificial ritual for a very large god.

Final Thoughts
(Click this link 👇 to order this comic)
SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE (VOL. 2) #9 is a banger of a classic pulp adventure with Nazi villains, tribal civil war, dinosaurs, and a high-stakes cliffhanger. The only oddity is a weird choice to make every male in this story either incompetent or evil, but you can’t have everything.
