Was It Good?
If you’ve been reading our reviews for any length of time, you know there are do’s and don’t’s when it comes to action comics of all varieties. One of those do’s is “tell part of the story through the action”. The reader should learn something about either the characters or the plot or both as the action unfolds. The big thing that SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE (VOL. 2) #2 gets right is it drops clues about the mystery through the action scenes incredibly well.
Overall, this is a great entry in the series for a character that newer readers may not know, even though she’s been around for decades. We get a better view of Sheena’s fighting style and prowess, we learn more about her moral compass by the way she tries to protect all life – not just humans, and we see that Sheena’s shrewdness makes her just as much an accomplished tracker and detective as she is a warrior. Most of this development is accomplished through the action as it happens.
Right along with Sheena’s character development is a more-than-mild amount of plot development in the arc. No spoilers in this section (read through to the next if you want details), but it’s clear Ransome is up to no good and this nature preserve is definitely not what it seems. Boulder-sized hints are dropped along the way to reward readers who pay attention and enjoy the thrill of guessing about what’s really happening.
The story is very good, and the art is equally so. There’s a ton of action and no small amount of gore in this issue. Morales adds tons of kinetic energy into every gun shot, paw swipe, and flying limb. Ribeiro’s colors are incredibly bold with lots of contrast to emphasize the sharpness of the shadows. This issue reads great and looks great.

If you’re not sure how Sheena got into this mess, first read our SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE (VOL. 2) #1 review.
We begin with Sheena defending herself against a giant, red, glowing leopard in mid-pounce. This is presumably the monster that’s killed most of the tourists and the security teams Ransome previously sent into the dome. Sheena spends less energy trying to kill the beast and more trying to soothe it and learn what it is.
Unfortunately, one of the hunting teams happens upon the confrontation and starts shooting. The beast makes quick work of the hunters before running off. However, we get a glimpse that the beast caught a bullet that reveals its body is not quite normal.
Later, Sheena talks with Ransome via wireless as she tracks the beast. It’s clear from her questions that Ransome’s original story doesn’t add up. Offline, Ransome talks with his partner and we learn he may have more knowledge about the beast’s origins than he’s told to Sheena so far.
We conclude the issue with Sheena finding the remains of the tourists and gear that begs more questions, a second confrontation with the beast, and unusual behavior for an apex predator.

Final Thoughts
SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE (VOL. 2) #2 does a bang up job of building out the character of Sheena for new readers and furthering the plot through an action-heavy issue. the art is great, emphasized by bold coloring, and the clues dropped during the issue expertly build curiosity for what’s happening, keeping readers hanging on for the next issue.
