Steven E. de Souza and Wes Clark Jr. turn up the intrigue, action, and mystery in SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE – FATAL EXAMS #2 when Sheena’s investigation into the illicit core drilling draws unwanted attention. The heart of the mystery isn’t quite clear (yet), but as Sheena follows the clues, the scenario gets more dangerous by the minute.
When last we left Sheena, she managed to establish her cover as a transfer student in the private school adjacent to the nature preserve. Her fellow classmates and snobs didn’t know what to make of the “monkey girl,” but Sheena kept up enough appearances to get close to the mystery while hiding in plain sight. Now, armed men set traps for Sheena when the conspirators learn she’s on their trail, leading to bloodshed and death on multiple fronts.
Admittedly, the mystery isn’t any closer to being revealed, but de Souza and Clark Jr. widen the scope of the story by putting supporting characters in the line of fire. The conspirators hunt down anyone with ties to Sheena or who might also be snooping into the core drilling out of suspicion, so Sheena isn’t the only investigator and not the only one in danger, so the stakes feel larger even though the mystery is still a complete blank.
What’s great about SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE – FATAL EXAMS #2? For an undercover operation, Sheena gets mixed up in multiple action scenes that end in bloody death for most of her enemies. The violence elevates the seriousness of the situation and Sheena’s character as a certified badass.
What’s not so great about SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE – FATAL EXAMS #2? Only one question gets answered about the mysterious core drilling, and the answer leads nowhere. A mystery works only if the writers drop clues to help readers join in solving the puzzle. If clues don’t start dropping soon, the mystery risks becoming a point of frustration.
How’s the art? The violent, bloody action works because Ediano Silva pulls no punches with exciting fight choreography, imaginative kills, and generally great-looking art.

We begin with Sheena tracking through the nature preserve at night to look for anyone drilling. When she hears a voice and what looks like a drilling in progress, she moves to investigate, only to find it’s a trap. Sheena is surrounded on all sides by armed men, but she escapes with only a minor shoulder wound after killing all the men.
Later, Bo helps analyze the core sample Sheena rough to him for analysis. The scientist Bob enlists verifies the sample is average soil, but as Bob and the scientist walk outside, the scientist is mowed down by a hit-and-run driver.
We conclude the issue with bareback horse riding, raised suspicions, and secret reports.
