SACRED SIX #6 Review

Posted on January 23, 2021

SACRED SIX #6, available from Dynamite Comics on January 27th, 2021, gives you a front-row seat to Lilith’s bloody orgy. When Cadiratra arrives to take revenge for the murder of the Six, Lilith’s lustful ways prove to be too much.

The Details

  • Written By: Christopher Priest
  • Art By: Julius Ohta
  • Colors By: Mohan
  • Letters By: Willie Schubert
  • Cover Art By: Lucio Parrillo
  • Cover Price: $3.99

Was It Good?

If you like blood-soaked vampire erotica, yes it was good. Priest leaves very little to the imagination in demonstrating Vampirella’s feminine charms run in the family.

The imagery is *ahem* memorable, the action scenes are kinetic, and the story does make progress on Lilith’s grand plan.

That said, Priest’s storytelling style remains tough to enjoy. The narrative flow is exceptionally erratic, and it’s almost difficult to understand what’s happening when one character is saying something (or should be) while they appear to do something else. It’s almost as if chunks of narration and dialog were left out at random points in the story and the words don’t match the art. Some people like this writing style, but this reviewer felt the flow was as smooth as an abandoned highway riddled with potholes.

Short Story Long

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

We begin with a vampire love-making session between Lilith and Zylaven. If you’re unfamiliar with the sight, it’s the same as regular love-making but with more biting, lots of blood, and flying. And it takes up nearly three pages.

Cadiratra arrives to confront Lilith about her role in the killing of Ashthorne’s Six, and he’s brought a small army of vampires to take revenge. Before the army can sweep Lilith up, Lilith’s merc team of Nyx, Chastity, and Victory arrive to lay waste with plenty of firepower.

The merc team holds their own while Lilith attempts to strike a bargain with Cadiratra. Before he realizes it, Lilith tears his head off, ending the vampire army’s assault and freeing Zylaven from his marriage to Cadiratra.

In one fell swoop, Lilith has taken control of the vampire army under Lumea Urmatoare, killed her opposition, and “sealed the deal” in more ways than one with Zylaven.

From here we flashback to a scene in Victory’s younger years shortly after acquiring her magic ring. We see how Victory first me the Gardner as they engage in a philosophical exchange about God, suffering, and belief. The scene establishes how Victory knows of the Gardner and what he believes, but it randomly comes out of nowhere.

Cut back to a jail cell where Vampirella is being held during the mystery of the two missing Ashthorne boys. Lilith arrives with Nyx, Chastity, and Victory to free Vampirella with the help of some vampiric glamor magic used on the police. The united group goes back to the caverns under Ashthorne to meet with Zylaven.

Meanwhile, we randomly jump to a scene where Drago (Vampirella’s “brother”) is tending to and caring for Pantha.

Cut back to the caverns under Ashthorne where we learn the “deal” Lilith made with Zylaven was to assist in killing Cadirata in exchange for leading Lilith and her team to a mystical gateway. The gateway is supposedly a dimensional tunnel that leads back to Drakulon. Before Lilith can cross over, Vampiri Security Service Officers step through and arrest Lilith, dragging her back to Drakulon in chains and closing the gate behind them.

An enraged Vampirella concludes Drago is responsible for Lilith’s capture. How? I have no idea. She flies off to find and kill him. When she arrives at the cabin, Pantha (in beast mode) is the only one there and acting strangely. Pantha attacks and tears into Vampirella, ending the issue.

Final Thoughts

SACRED SIX #6, available from Dynamite Comics on January 27th, 2021, shuts the door (…err, gate?) on Vampirella’s quest to finally go home to Drakulon. The issue is filled with gory, bloody, dramatic art. The story makes progress heading into the finale next issue, but the narrative flow is jumpy and inconsistent which may be a barrier to your reading enjoyment.

Score: 7.3/10
