[RUMOR] New X-Men Titles for 2024? featured image

[RUMOR] New X-Men Titles for 2024?

Posted on December 13, 2023

When Tom Brevoort announced he was moving away from his role of overseer for titles such as The Avengers in favor of his new position as head of the X-Office, speculation skyrocketed. Aside from wondering what would become of Jordan White and the X-Slack mainstays, the topic of conversation quickly shifted to two questions.

  1. What new X-Men titles for 2024 would make up the post-Krakoa era?
  2. Who would Brevoort get to write them?

Well, we received a copy of the working plan, the proposed titles, and who Brevoort has tapped to write them. This information was confirmed by multiple sources who have been proven trustworthy in the past, but please consider this as a rumor until Marvel or the creators involved officially confirm their part.

The Post-Krakoa World

According to our sources, the conclusion of the Rise of the Powers of X will definitively put an end to the Krakoa era. Our source states…

By the end of Rise of the Powers of X, Xavier, Emma, Apocalypse, Destiny, Moira, Synch and all four Sinisters will all be gone. Despite the title, “The Ressurection of Magneto” will not actually resurrect Magneto. Cyclops and Jean will also be ‘retired’ as characters for the foreseeable future following some Phoenix stuff. Classic Beast will return and will reopen the Xavier School. Laura will be the primary Wolverine again. Logan will feature in a Deadpool team-up book. No references to Krakoa, Arrako, and Orchis going forward. Magik will do another heel turn and be positioned as the next big bad of the franchise. Big roles for Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Deadpool, and Jubilee.

If true, it appears Marvel is bringing the X-Men back to their roots and simplifying the overly complex storylines with some adjustments based on their last four years on Krakoa. The mention of Deadpool as a key character is a surprise initially, but not as much when you consider the title lineup and who’s tapped to write.

The New X-Men Titles for 2024

The new X-Men titles are working titles, which means they’re subject to change, but the main characters are spelled out in the titles to fortify the strategic direction described above. Our source asserts this is the core list of titles for the Brevoort era.

  • Uncanny X-Men (Written by: Gail Simone. Jubilee-led team)
  • Iron Man and the X-Men (Written by: Dan Slott. Described as ‘X-Men as Avengers’)
  • Deadpool and the X-Men (All Deadpool and X-Force books pitched and developed by Rob Liefeld)
  • Uncanny Deadpool
  • Deadpool and Wolverine
  • All-New Wolverine
  • Uncanny X-Force
  • Dark X-Force
  • Ms. Marvel and the New Mutants (Written by: Rainbow Rowell. School book. All new characters)
  • Uncanny Ms. Marvel (Written by: Nadia Shammas)

Gail Simone’s presence in the X-Office was recently revealed, so that’s not a surprise. What is a surprise is just about everything else.

Brevoort is placing heavy emphasis on X-Force and Deadpool, so it makes sense to bring Rob Liefeld into the mix for those titles. However, the idea that Rob Liefeld would go for the arrangement, considering his success working independently, is a mild shocker.

Dan Slott recently announced a renewed exclusivity deal with Marvel. If the above list is true, that announcement may have been an early signal that Brevoort intends to keep Slott on the title for a while, which is also a surprise considering the critical and commercial failure of Slott’s last turn on Iron Man – Iron Man 2020.

Last but not least, Brevoort appears to be formalizing a YA strategy with Ms. Marvel as the public face of the publisher for the next generation of readers. Rainbow Rowell, noted YA author and current writer of the slice-of-life She-Hulk series, is developing an all-ages book led by Ms. Marvel and a host of new characters. Nadia Shammas, whose not written more than a single issue or an anthology short for either Marvel or DC, will take up a full ongoing series with Ms. Marvel, presumably to explore her new identity as a mutant.

Again, this information is considered a rumor, and plans are subject to change, but we’ll provide updates as we receive them.
