Is It Good?
ROBYN HOOD: LAST STOP is a nifty creature feature starring NYC’s very own vigilante archer. The monster is impressively intimidating, Brusha cleverly mixes Lovecraft lore with Native American legends for a unique backstory, and the fast-paced fights create high, sustained action for a thoroughly fun read.
Everything about this one-shot works and works well. The plot centers on a chance encounter between Robyn Hood and a group of toughs who try to derail a subway train as a sacrifice to the Lovecraftian god Nyarlathotep. When the train derails, the passengers are forced to find their way out of the tunnels while being chased by something monstrous.
In terms of plot styles, Brusha successfully creates an “overcoming the monster” story with jump scares, plenty of blood, and a monster that can’t be killed by ordinary means. Again, the story is made more interesting by Brusha’s successful blending of Lovecraft and Native American legends with a small pinch of urban legends as NYC subway tunnels are notoriously ripe for stories about monsters and killers hiding in the underground labyrinth.
Brusha’s story is elevated by excellent art from Rei and Rodriguez. The set pieces are surprisingly detailed. The action sequences keep the dramatic tension high. And the creature designs are impressive. In all, this one-shot is an effective blend of action and horror.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
We begin with Robyn Hood taking the NYC subway on her patrol to find out who (or what) is killing homeless people. Coincidentally, her subway car is the chosen location for devotees of Nyarlathotep to sacrifice innocent lives in service to their god. Robyn manages to stop the cult but not before the train is derailed underground.
Robyn works with the conductor and passengers to begin the long walk to an access tunnel. Unfortunately, the killer Robyn was originally looking for has found its next meal in the survivors. When the monster attacks, Robyn uses every trick she knows to cut it down, but typical attacks aren’t enough to kill what can’t be killed by normal means.
We conclude the issue with background information from a convenient source, a monster with a changing face, and big hits for tough problems.
