Is RED SONJA (VOL. 7) #9 Good?

In the preceding issue, Red Sonja found herself pursued by supernatural entities sent by Kulan Gath, while also contending with the release of a soulless Demon Lord named Erlik into the mortal lands. Alongside her companion Grace, she faced a onslaught as they sought refuge from the relentless pursuit.

In “Red Sonja (Vol. 7) #9,” the titular character feels drawn to the mystical Wild Hunt unleashed by the gods, even as Emberfall’s army recklessly confronts Kulan Gath. As chaos ensues, Red Sonja must navigate through a perilous landscape filled with supernatural forces while trying to protect the kingdom’s citizens.

One intriguing aspect of this issue is the character of Grace, who is based on real-life cosplayer Gracie the Cosplay Lass. The incorporation of a real-world figure adds a unique dimension to the story.

What did we like about RED SONJA (VOL. 7) #9?

The issue is action-packed, with intense and vividly depicted scenes of combat and supernatural mayhem. Kulan Gath’s formidable power is showcased effectively, elevating him as a menacing adversary. The cliffhanger ending involving Grace adds suspense and intrigue, leaving readers eager for the next installment.

What didn’t we like about RED SONJA (VOL. 7) #9?

While the introduction of Erlik adds potential depth to the story, his sudden appearance feels somewhat abrupt and disconnected from the overall narrative flow. The simultaneous convergence of multiple plot threads can make the storytelling feel chaotic and unfocused, detracting from the clarity of the plot.

How’s the Art?

Walter Geovani’s artwork excels in portraying a diverse array of monstrous creatures and supernatural beings. The character designs are visually striking, enhancing the immersive experience of the story. However, the lack of dramatic shadows and mood-setting atmosphere in the coloring detracts slightly from the overall impact of the artwork.
